5. Be Eager to Develop Further

“Effective online teachers recognize ongoing professional development is a central component of their success.”

I have no earthly idea when I would ever stop seeking Professional Development as a part of my typical week. I have tried in the past to “focus” on just being in the classroom. However, if I am not constantly learning, or working towards a new goal, I am just not a very happy camper. I know when it comes to being a great instructor, I am at the tip of a giant iceberg of potential that I hope to surface over my career. My story is still unwritten, and I love filling it up page by page!

As noted before, being a student helps me be a better teacher. Perhaps one day I will slow down, but right now all I can imagine is wanting more knowledge, more skills, maybe another degree, and certainly tons more of experiences in online education.

As result of being a being eager to develop professionally, I now:

Have plans to start an Online Teaching Interest Group within Communication Studies
- For example: I attend the "Western States Communication Association" conference every year, and in February 2020 will participate in Denver, CO where I plan to bring my goal to the Community College Interest Group. You can link to the conference site by clicking the image below.

Have plans to either face-lift or totally renovate every page, every lecture, and every assignment in every one of my courses.
Am working to earn certificates to enhance my knowledge and my value at my institutions
- For example, this website will help my achieve my "Advanced Online Teaching Principles" capstone. See the description of the capstone below.

Am considering a PhD focused on Online Education
- Please contact me if you know any programs in Education, Communication Studies, etc.
Am considering teaching yoga, online!
