For the 2023-2024 school year, we will be working closely with McGill students. More Universities to come in the Future!
Engineering Program Information
A barrier I experienced while searching for post-secondary education was program information. Even though presentations were offered for several Ontario universities, only general information was given.
For example, any specialized knowledge regarding the difference in engineering disciplines could only be found online in convoluted hard-to-navigate University websites where no standardized format was used in sharing information.
Limited Academic and Extracurricular Opportunities and Resources
As a student from a rural community, I found that most information about student organizations and universities was quite localized and mostly pertained to nearby institutions in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Therefore, much of the information I gathered was done through my online research. That is why I felt like I lacked much knowledge about clubs and university resources before attending a prestigious university like McGill. I would have truly benefitted from having an advisor who could personally help me find the program and university that was right for me.
Special Insight of Current Students
As an international student in a rural community, I wasn't sure about the national reputations of all the Canadian universities I was applying to. There was a special kind of insight and knowledge I lacked to decide between my options for university, and I felt that I needed a close mentor and contact that I could ask for support.
