We engage youth in climate justice through gender-responsive education, community awareness, and creative campaigns that highlight the intersection of gender and environmental sustainability.
Bridging civic space for young women in climate action!
Cambodian Women and Girls are making considerable strides in their involvement in higher education
but remain underrepresented in STEM disciplines. As there is only a small window to foster girlsโ interest
and passion for STEAM fields. In the STEM disciplines in Cambodian tertiary institutions, there are only
14% women compared to 86% men. Empowering young vulnerable girls and young women to access
training in STEM is vital to helping them join a growing global movement. Of the more than 4,300,000
Cambodian youth aged 15 to 29, about 5% are currently enrolled in tertiary institutions. Of this small
group of privileged youth, only about 39% are young women due to gender disparities, and female
leadership role models. In Cambodia, although women make up a significant portion of the population,
their representation in political and leadership positions is low, while, only 36 percent of the role in
management teams in the public and private sectors by Khmer Time, 2022.
Therefore, Bridge the GAP Cambodia would like to introduce HERights: Bridging
Civic Space for Young Females in STEM to showcase women leaders/role models
in the STEM community in order to inspire other young women/girls through the
SiSTEM podcast, digital story exhibition, and public awareness forum.
