The Bridge Division, established in Bangladesh under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, oversees the construction and maintenance of various critical infrastructure projects, primarily focusing on bridges, toll roads, tunnels, flyovers, elevated expressways, causeways, subways, and link roads exceeding a length of 1500 meters. Formed through a notification on March 31, 2008, its main objective is to ensure a seamless and efficient transportation system across the country.Some of the notable projects completed under the Bridge Division include the Padma Bridge, Bangabandhu Bridge, Muktarpur Bridge, and the Dhaka Elevated Expressway PPP Project, which stretches from Kaola to Farmgate near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Additionally, the division is on the verge of inaugurating the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, marking Bangladesh and South Asia's first road communication tunnel, constructed under the Karnaphuli River. Overall, the Bridge Division plays a crucial role in enhancing Bangladesh's infrastructure, facilitating better connectivity, and promoting economic growth through improved transportation networks.
Dhaka Elevated Expressway is Bangladesh's first elevated expressway project,which will connect the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with Kutubkhali via Kawla, Kuril, Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Hatirjheel, Moghbazar, Kamalapur, Sayedabad and Jatrabari of Dhaka.
Dhaka–Ashulia Elevated Expressway is an under-construction elevated expressway project in Bangladesh. Once built, the expressway will become Bangladesh’s third elevated expressway and connect Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with Abdullahpur, Ashulia
Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) is a statutory body under Bridges Division of the Ministry of Road Transport & Bridges. The Government of Bangladesh has sanctioned a bridge project across the Paira River along Kachua-Betagi-Patuakhali-Lohalia-Kalaia road to be implemented by Bangladesh Bridge Authority, as executing agency.
The third Meghna bridge will be constructed 100 meters upstream of Ferighat on Bhulta-Araihajar-Bancharampur road. At present there is communication between Nabinagar and Bancharampur by ferry. The bridge will also serve as an alternative alignment of the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways.
