Submission Types
Participants are invited to submit extended abstracts (up to 500 words) for both types of submissions: opinion pieces and short papers.
The symposium welcomes short opinion pieces that challenge prevailing assumptions about information interaction and boundary‑making in contemporary sociotechnical systems. These contributions may be speculative or provocative, foregrounding conceptual tensions, overlooked actors, or emerging phenomena across platforms, search, and algorithmic mediation. Opinion pieces should be designed to spark discussion and set the agenda for collective reflection rather than to present definitive conclusions.
We also invite short papers that present conceptual, empirical, or methodological perspectives on information interaction boundaries. These submissions may draw on ongoing or completed research, but are not required to report finalized results. Relevant contributions might examine how boundaries are configured through system design, institutional arrangements, policies, or everyday information practices, and explore implications for interaction models, research methods, or user experience design.
In addition, the symposium welcomes practice‑oriented and professional reflections from information professionals, UX practitioners, system designers, and policy‑engaged researchers. These submissions may address challenges encountered in real‑world contexts, such as platform governance, digital wellbeing, or professional decision‑making, and reflect on how boundaries of information interaction are negotiated in applied settings.
Across all submission types, we particularly encourage contributions that bridge perspectives from the CHIIR and SIG‑USE communities, highlight points of convergence or tension, and offer questions or insights that can meaningfully inform facilitated discussion and future research and practice agendas.
Extended abstracts are not published in the ASIS&T proceedings; however, there will be an opportunity to develop an ACM SIGIR Forum article based on the abstracts and workshop discussions, with all participants included as co-authors.
Deadline for all submissions: 24th July 2026.
Notification of acceptance: 4th August 2026.

Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on their relevance to the symposium’s focus on information interaction in contemporary sociotechnical systems.
Reviewers will prioritize submissions that offer insightful and original contributions, including conceptual reframings, critical perspectives, empirical reflections, or methodological provocations. Given the exploratory aims of the symposium, submissions need not present completed research, but should articulate a coherent argument, raise meaningful questions, or surface tensions and implications relevant to research and practice across CHIIR and SIG-USE communities.
Submissions will also be assessed for their potential to stimulate discussion and collective inquiry during the symposium.
