Fracking, or Hydraulic Fracturing is the process of injecting liquid into the ground at high pressure to obtain natural gas or oil. That was our project this year, and it is really cool. We didn't even know what fracking was until about our 7th to 8th week. One of our team members named Ben he told us all about it to us. At the beginning we didn't know if it was a problem statement or if it was not a problem. We finally figured out that it had more cons than pros after a short lesson. We felt pretty good about our project.
What it actually is
Fracking, or Hydraulic Fracturing is the process of injecting liquid into the ground at high pressure to obtain natural gas or oil. One thing that phrase is missing is that you pretty much blow up a bit of underground just to open the space to get some more oil and natural gas. The chemicals you use are NOT good for you. Even though fracking has a thick layer of cement between the water and the dangerous fracking fluids. So when the explosions happen or when the really fast water comes through the casing could break and just like that your water is contaminated. When you drink the fracking water you won't be feeling good for the next couple weeks.
