On Day 2, we started to get into the meat of what coaching is.
Throughout the day, we discovered coaching is defined as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process to maximize their potential.
We learned the fundamental tenets of effective coaching and how it involves building trust, maintaining presence, and understanding the client's context, which includes their identity, environment, experiences, values, and beliefs. Each of these elements show up and impact a leaders decisions and thoughts. As we dig deeper into the coaching training, we will learn how to tap into the inner tenets to not only be aware of these influences, but to also learn how to notice when one might have greater influence over an action, thought or decision.
We were introduced to the general coaching process which includes chemistry sessions, relationship building, program design, development, and mechanisms to build the relationship session to session throughout the engagement.
Our instructors highlighted how coaching delves into the mind, body, spirit, emotions, and identities of individuals (our clients), focusing on the present while acknowledging the past and influencing the future.
We discussed the importance and impact of effective listening, intentional learning, and emotional regulation and how crucial they are for coaches.
We also learned about the power of welcoming storytelling. In coaching, storytelling involves ego stories, soul stories, and watershed stories, which help clients explore their identities and experiences. To effectively leverage these insights, coaches need to create a safe environment for clients to share and reflect on their stories, fostering growth and transformation.
Day 1 was exciting, Day 2 most certainly set the hook!
Stay true.
