As we entered the final module of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program, we took time to revisit the core elements of coaching—ensuring we leave the program with a strong foundation and a clear sense of purpose. We also had the privilege of hearing from alumni who generously shared insights into the business side of coaching, offering practical tips for launching and sustaining a coaching practice (more on that soon!).
To close out the module, we celebrated—our experiences, our classmates, and ourselves. It was a meaningful moment of reflection, honoring the growth we’ve each experienced throughout this journey.
Following this last module, we had two final assignments: a reflective paper and a recorded coaching session. The paper, while academic in structure, was deeply personal. Writing it felt natural, as I was able to express my appreciation for the learning, the community, and the transformation I’ve experienced.
The recording, however, was a different story. While the session I submitted was powerful—my client expressed genuine appreciation for the insights gained—I didn’t pass the ICF assessment. It was a tough moment, but also a valuable one. I realized that as I grow more connected with clients, I risk making assumptions or steering the conversation based on what I think they need. That’s a slippery slope that might lead to rough waters. Coaching is about holding space, not taking the helm.
Fortunately, Georgetown’s commitment to growth meant I had the opportunity to resubmit. I found a new client, recorded another session, and this time, I met all the ICF criteria. I passed—and officially completed the Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching program. I’m now a certified coach!
This isn’t the end—it’s a new beginning. Georgetown’s program is ICF Level 2 certified, meaning I’ve completed the training requirements for both ACC and PCC credentials. As I continue working with clients, I’m now preparing to apply for my ICF ACC certification.
I’m incredibly grateful for this experience and excited to continue supporting professionals through their personal and professional growth.
Stay true.
