I am 77 years old, married and a father to two sons,. I was born in Edinburgh and am currently living in Oakham.
I am one of millions of people who have tried their hand at writing poetry, but whose work will only ever be read by family members, close friends or anyone who happens to come across it by chance. To achieve greater recognition requires the kind of desire for “fame” and “success” that I just don’t possess.
History tells us that our most famous poets expended a great deal of time, effort and cash trying to ingratiate themselves to the literary establishment of their day, and its rules of excellence. Today the route to recognition is usually through endless exposure on social media and in having poetry published in literary journals. All this grovelling for recognition just isn’t my cup of tea.
Although I am not motivated to try to reach a larger audience, I think it would be rather pathetic not to “go public” with the poems I have produced because, who knows?, someone might even get some pleasure from reading them. Consequently, over the last 5 years, I have written around 75 poems which I have made available in my Amazon book “Chatter and Verse” and can all be heard on my Youtube channel
