February 2026
Showing Up for Our Schools!
Weather-related closures and delayed openings were challenging for our entire school community. Ongoing safety concerns of icy sidewalks, parking lots and bus routes played a significant role in those disruptions and highlighted how stretched our public school system truly is.
Seeing our principal out when school was closed shoveling sidewalks and parking lot entrances himself was a powerful reminder that the issue isn't a lack of care, but a lack of support. Chronic underfunding from the county, the absence of a state budget this year and policies that continue to divert resources away from public schools force school systems to make difficult choices with limited funds. These choices directly impact students, staff and families.
And still, this Brassfield community shows up. Our families, teachers and staff continue to support one another and our students with dedication and resilience. Thank you.
February brings opportunities to connect and engage, including Advocacy Council meetings, Spirit Night @ Pro 3:5, Book Fair, Multicultural Fair and two PTA Board meetings. At the end of the month, we will host a luncheon for the Brassfield staff. There are opportunities to volunteer on campus, advocate remotely and/or support the businesses that support Brassfield ES PTA.
I encourage you to reflect on where our schools are being asked to do more with less, and how our community can continue to show up for one another and for public education.
Please email BrassfieldESPTA@gmail.com with any questions, comments, concerns or ideas!

Here is the link to the Public Schools First letter template to advocate for reform of the school voucher program - a program that allows our tax dollars to fund private school education to those who do not have financial hardship and to schools that are not accountable to the public and not required to follow the same safety, academic, and non-discrimination guidelines as public schools.
The Brassy Bear Community Fund brings our Brassfield community together to support families experiencing temporary hardships.
In collaboration with school administration, our social worker, counselors and the PTA Board, donated funds are directed with care and discretion to provide essential assistance - because Brassy Bears take care of one another.
