Introduction
Hello. My name is Brenna Sallit, and I am a current middle school ELA teacher at Saint Patrick School. At Saint Patrick's School, I am provided with opportunities that have enabled me to accept and embrace change, adapt to my surroundings, and overcome any challenge.
My personal qualities include compassion, persistence, adaptability, and reliability. By employing these characteristics, I have been able to expand upon my knowledge and grow stronger in my educational journey. These qualities have landed me where I am today, ready to accept a new journey and inspire students daily.
Why I Am An English Teacher?
I believe education should be a right, not a privilege, and it should be accessible to all.
Like Jacque Fresco said, "When education and resources are available to all without a price tag, there will be no limit to human potential"
Becoming an educator will give me the space to help students access education in new and creative ways, enabling them to reach their full potential. While the content I teach students will enable them to grow, it will also provide them with new ways of thinking and viewing the world around them. Allowing them to effectively navigate their mind and seek new perspectives.
What Is Your Vision Of An Effective English Classroom?
An effective English classroom should begin with implementing a safe, positive environment where students feel comfortable to freely express themselves and their opinions and never fear judgment. Without this essential component, a classroom would be solely teacher-orientated. An effective English classroom can be reached by engaging students through literature, speeches, presentations, papers, and Socratic Seminars where students are given opportunities to engage in various activities to amplify their learning.
An effective English classroom should engage students and challenge their minds to constantly consider the truth, critically think, and problem-solve. This can be accomplished by providing students with novels, poems, prompts, and other resources related to our lessons. These tools will work to enhance their process of thinking and evaluating, reasoning, and summarizing to maximize their potential.
Lastly, an effective English classroom also teaches students essential information. Instead of throwing information at students, gathering relatable resources would allow students to synthesize topics they learn in literature. When students understand the content is relatable or applicable to their own lives, they will be more engaged, involved, and active in their own education. By providing students with a safe, positive environment, useful resources, and real-life applications an effective English classroom is achieved.
