Teaching Overview
Teaching Overview
I am committed to serving my students, thus, I aim to engineer my classroom and lab environments to be both welcoming and accommodating to all. As a teacher and mentor, my goals are the following:
Encourage the development of a scientific mindset and engage students’ intellectual curiosity
Provide the tools needed to not only apply psychological insights to one’s own lives but also raise awareness of structural inequalities that permeate our social experiences
Foster inclusivity and empower student achievement and autonomy, particularly for students from historically marginalized backgrounds.
In addition to the courses, workshops, and lectures listed below, I also completed the Certificate in College Teaching program at Duke University, which provided systemic pedagogical training for teaching in higher education. For my teaching efforts as a graduate student, I was awarded the Ottis Green Fellowship, developed to serve the public interest by supporting the development of talented and industrious educators in the social sciences. Finally, I was also a fellow of the Preparing Future Faculty Program at Duke, partnering with neighboring universities (e.g., North Carolina State University) to work with, observe teaching, and experience faculty responsibilities.
