Breakthrough’s Summer 2020 curriculum used a combination of asynchronous and synchronous tools for interaction —Google Classroom,Zoom, Google Sites and loom—students and Teaching Fellows collaborated to complete this project over the four week program.
The purpose of Breakthrough's virtual summer 2020 curriculum was to ensure that Breakthrough students continue to develop their identities as community-engaged lifelong learners through learning and critical thinking that includes:
Identifying the intersection(s) of current events and their life/communities
Contributing to historical archives
Creating a “Call to Action”
Students will be able to reflect, analyze and respond to current events by creating primary sources that show the impact the COVID-19 crisis and recent protest has impacted their lives, their community and the world.
How does recording and sharing students perspective contribute to current events and creating primary sources for history?
Sub-questions:
Week 1: What am I discovering about myself?
Week 2: What am I discovering about my neighborhood/community?
Week 3: What am I discovering about the world/society?
Week 4: How does recording and sharing my perspective contribute to current events and history?
Students completed assignments from the weekly playlist shown to the right. Using a combination of tools including google docs and google classroom. Students meet with their Teaching fellows to help edit and design their projects for publication on Google Sites.
