Make sure you have these instructions somewhere OTHER than the Chromebook you will be "unlocking," as you will not be able to access the instructions on your Chromebook while entering Breakpoint.
If this is your first time, make sure you have plenty of time for trial and error before starting. While this is a relatively simple process, this may take a while for first-time users. Try to have at least a thirty-minute time frame before trying this for the first time.Â
Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi. Breakpoint will not work if you are not connected to Wi-Fi.
This may be against some school technology policies, so use your best judgement.
Don't use Breakpoint for anything illegal.
While signed in to your school account normally, open Chromebook Settings and navigate to "About ChromeOS". In the window that appears, the first 3 numbers lists your version . If your version is listed to be Version 119 or below, you are good to go to continue with the exploit! If your version is listed to be Version 120 or above, this exploit will not work with these steps. Navigate to the page "v120 and Above" to see instructions for Version 120 and above.
In this screenshot, the version is v118 --->
Go to logout screen, and turn off Wi-Fi using the control panel on bottom right.
Click on one of the apps in the "apps" section on the bottom left. "Formative Lockdown Browser" has been shown to have the best results, but others may also work. Quickly press Alt+Shift+S, this should open up a control panel window. Don't click anything while waiting for the next step. If the menu doesn't open, you likely aren't fast enough. Click Ctrl+Alt+S and try again.
This menu should appear in the bottom right. --->
Wait until a "Network not available" screen appears. Click "Accessibility", then click the "Help" question mark. This will close the control panel window, but an invisible window will appear in the background.
Click "Diagnose", then click "Add other Wi-Fi network" to turn Wi-Fi back on. Don't type anything into the pop-up; just wait until a "Connectivity Diagnostics" window appears.
Click on "Wi-Fi," then in the dropdown menu, click on "Open in settings." This will launch a basic Breakpoint window. Finally, close the settings pop-up window, which should be displaying a default ChromeOS settings page. You are now booted into Breakpoint, and can proceed to installing Alohomora.
