Cash, Class and Bioscience Awarding Gaps
09.30 – 13.00, 20th May 2026
The Bioscience Awarding Gap (BAG) Network is organizing a workshop to discuss the ways that we can tackle socioeconomic awarding gaps in our discipline. These awarding gaps often appear in university Access and Participation Plans as “IMD Awarding Gaps”, where IMD stands for Index of Multiple Deprivation. Breaking the Link is a Distributed Hubs meeting, which is a hybrid workshop that encourages face-to-face participation with colleagues.
Keynote speaker: 🔊 Prof Steve Jones, University of Manchester
Participants will learn how to...
Include first-generation students
Support commuting students
Teach students who work part-time
Take fresh approaches to financial support
Level the placement playing field

All participants are encouraged to join the meeting with colleagues at a local hub. Each hub is organized by a host, who books a room on their campus and invites their colleagues to the meeting. You can see on the map below all the hubs that have been organized so far. If you would like to host a hub on your campus, fill in this short form.
