Title of the Project
BREAKING BOUNDARIES 03 is an eTwinning project and is called thus as it means students and teachers from European countries communicating across diverse language and cultural boundaries. In our case it involves 3 schools from Italy and 1 school from the Netherlands. The eTwinning project works on the basis of creating a mutual learning and respect for other nation schools in the process of carrying out activities shared in a common space, this website and the TwinSpace on the ESEP site. The number 03 refers to the fact that this is the third Breaking Boundaries project involving the first schools that initiated the project, they are Wolfert, NL together with two Italian schools Liceo Stelluti, Fabriano and IIS Panzini, Senigallia, this year Liceo Mamiani, Pesaro has also joined this amazing project. All schools are participating with third year high school students.
Aims of the project
The initial and most important aim of the project is to allow students that are learning a second language, English in our case, to be able to put their language structural knowledge into practice. The practice would involve Speaking and Conversing with like minded students of their own age group. All groups would be speaking and writing English as a second language and not as their first language. This will definitely put most of the students at ease when their pronunciation and language usage in spoken format is at its beginning stage. Therefore breaking down the language barrier by allowing the students to feel comfortable speaking and conversing.
Objectives of the project
The objectives of this project are outlined below:
Improve communication skills in L2 learning
Raise awareness of other cultures
Promote language speaking skills
Reinforce general language skills (writing, speaking, reading, listening)
Promote connection and collaboration in class and online with other students
Understand and gain knowledge about the Agenda 2030 Sustainability Goals
Create a basis for future projects for our school community
Project Activities
The topic of the Project this year is create a funding project for an SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) by each group in each school. The project is outlined as follows:
Creation of a Logo by each school (one or two to be submitted for final selection by student vote)
Creation of a POSTER by each group in each school to promote their SDG goal for the country they have chosen to promote
Creation of a PODCAST by each group in each school to further promote their country & goal of choice
Replies by other groups to their matching group to comment and further discuss the Podcast
Creation of an inhouse DEBATE - each school will hold their own in-house debate to select the best (winning) debate team that will eventually carry out a live Debate online or in person with the other best teams from each school. Students and Teachers will share photos and reflections on the process.
Online or Live in Person Debate held with one team from each school - therefore 4 teams - matched in two groups of two teams to debate why their goal and country should receive funding. The final debate will ideally be held in Italy when the Wolfert students will be in Italy on a School trip.
