An annual memorial scholarship honoring and remembering CBHS student and swimmer Jack Lowe, who, after a long and courageous fight, lost his battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma in January 2024.
Hall County Students whose lives have been affected by cancer and will be participating in continuing education courses at a 2-year, 4-year, or technical institution or have committed to serving in the military.
Two $1000 awards (one boy, one girl) to be used towards tuition, housing, books, fees, etc.
Hall County Senior
Must be continuing education or already signed with the military.
Student must have been affected by cancer with self or immediate family member (parents, sibling, grandparent, etc.)
Students must submit a 500-1000 word essay addressing the following topic:
"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." – Desmond Tutu
Words often provide strength during life's most difficult challenges. For many families impacted by cancer, a meaningful quote, scripture, or personal motto can offer hope, comfort, and perspective.
In a 500-1000 word essay, share a quote, scripture, or saying that reflects your family's experience with cancer. Explain why it is meaningful to you and describe how your personal connection to cancer has shaped your outlook on life. Reflect on the challenges you faced, the resilience and positivity you witnessed, and the lessons you learned about hope, perseverance, and supporting others through difficult times. Discuss how these experiences will influence your future goals and the impact you hope to have on those around you.
One letter of recommendation is required. The recommendation should come from an individual who can speak to the applicant's character, integrity, leadership, service to others, and ability to persevere through challenges.
Applicants may submit a recommendation from:
A teacher
School counselor
Coach Club or organization advisor
Principal or assistant principal
Employer or supervisor
Religious or community leader
Volunteer coordinator
Note: Letters from family members or relatives will not be accepted.
Recommenders are encouraged to comment on the applicant's character, compassion, resilience, leadership, positive attitude, and ability to support others during challenging circumstances.
