If we had to sum up Jack Lowe, this would be the closest description we could give. Jack was a fun-loving, free spirit, fluent in the language of sarcasm, and fiercely loyal to his friends and family. Despite all efforts, he never mastered diving from the blocks, but that was just Jack—determined, unique, and unstoppable.
In the fall of 2022, Jack began experiencing persistent leg pain. Doctors, coaches, and family initially attributed it to “growing pains” after a summer growth spurt. But as the swim season progressed, the pain continued. Despite his discomfort, Jack pushed through, helping his swim team place second in the county championships. After the season, his family, still concerned, sought further answers—answers no parent ever wants to hear. They soon found themselves in the oncologist’s office.
In March 2022, Jack was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer affecting his femur and hip. He was immediately placed on crutches and began chemotherapy and radiation. But in typical Jack fashion, he didn’t let that slow him down. After one of his first appointments, he came straight to the team’s swim banquet, a symbol of his strength and determination. This was who Jack was—a beacon of resilience, fighting a battle that few could comprehend.
Jack fought relentlessly. Through the treatments, radiation, and isolation, he faced every challenge with extraordinary courage. In November 2022, after months of grueling treatments, Jack rang the bell—he was declared cancer-free! He had won the battle, saved his leg, and was ready to ease back into a normal life.
But tragically, the victory was short-lived. In August 2023, just as Jack was preparing for surgery to place rods and pins in his leg, doctors discovered the cancer had returned, this time metastasizing to several areas of his body. Jack immediately resumed chemotherapy and began a clinical trial. Yet, despite all efforts, the cancer continued to spread, and the heartbreaking news came: his earthly journey was nearing its end.
Even in the face of this devastating prognosis, Jack continued to fight with incredible strength, determined to create memories with his loved ones. He cherished the time he had, celebrating milestones like Homecoming, Halloween (his favorite holiday), his 17th birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. In November, Jack fulfilled a lifelong dream when he was officially pinned as a member of the United States Marine Corps by his veteran father and attended the Marine Corps Ball with his family. The Marines recognized what everyone who knew Jack already did—his exceptional bravery.
On January 26, 2024, amidst a storm of thunder and lightning, surrounded by those he loved, Jack left this world to begin his cosmic journey.
Jack Lowe was a rare and beautiful soul, a true embodiment of bravery. His spirit—full of life, love, and light—continues to inspire us all, especially those who face the same battle.
Thank you, Jack, for loving us so fiercely. We will forever honor your memory.
