Alder - District 15

Hello! My name is Brad Hinkfuss (he/him/his) and I am running to be the next Alder for District 15 in the City of Madison. I have lived in our east side neighborhood for over 20 years, having raised a family here while becoming deeply involved this community. Our neighborhoods and our community become strong through citizen engagement, and nothing has impressed me more than the amazing neighbors that I have met while advocating for projects and causes that matter to the people of this district. As Alder, my focus areas would be: ensuring thoughtful development by fostering resident involvement in the development process,  cultivating green and safe neighborhoods, and promoting greater fiscal responsibility.

PAST EVENTS

Hosted by Dane County Supervisor Yogesh Chawla.

There will be beer, appetizers, drinks and music. This is a great opportunity to meet Brad and hear his vision for District 15!

Brad has worked for years on the SASY neighborhood association as a board member/president, helped organize AtwoodFest which raises thousands for community organizations and has helped shepard the development process for many development projects by working on the Planning and Development committee.

It is hard to think of anyone who has put in more time and energy into our neighborhood than Brad. He will bring those same skills and energy to the City Council.

The event is free and open to the public. However, please help us reach as many voters as possible by making a donation!

Why Brad?

Brad listens

At the heart of Brad's campaign for Alder of District 15 is his commitment to listening. He believes that hearing from all voices in the community is the most powerful thing he can do as a representative. Brad is dedicated to amplifying neighborhood voices and engaging residents in the development process. He understands that representing the district means being transparent and communicating openly about what is happening on the Council and in District 15. Brad will listen to your input and bring your voice to the issues that matter to you. So, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts and ideas with Brad. He is passionate about hearing what matters to you.

Brad gets the job done

Brad has a proven track record of getting results for the community. As a neighborhood organizer in District 15 for over 20 years, he has connected neighbors and facilitated decisions informed by community feedback. Brad knows how to be an effective leader, and he understands the city processes and bureaucracy needed to get the results that District 15 residents want. With his experience and expertise, Brad will work tirelessly to ensure that the community's needs are met while being fiscally responsible. If you want an Alder who will deliver results for the district, Brad is your candidate.

The Issues

Thoughtful Development:

Brad believes that development in District 15 needs to be done thoughtfully and with neighbor and community influence. With the housing crisis in Madison, we need more housing options, but we must ensure that new developments are done in a way that is respectful of the neighborhood's character and enhances the quality of life for residents. One way to do this is to ensure commercial spaces are included in new developments to increase amenities for existing residents when we add development. As Alder, Brad will make sure that neighborhood voices are amplified in developments when new proposals are introduced. He is committed to ensuring that thoughtful development in District 15 is prioritized and that residents have a strong voice in the process. His experience working with neighbors in the developments at Garver Feed Mill, Union Corners, Linden Cohousing, and numerous other District 15 developments demonstrates his ability to unite diverse voices and create strong collective impact.

Green & Safe Neighborhoods:

Creating green and safe neighborhoods is essential to the health and well-being of our community. Brad is committed to improving transportation options in District 15, promoting traffic calming measures and safe streets for all residents. He is passionate about protecting our lakes and ensuring that our community has access to clean water and safe swimming areas. Additionally, Brad is dedicated to preserving our natural environment by expanding access to nature, trails, parks, and open spaces. As Alder, Brad will work tirelessly to create greener and safer neighborhoods for everyone. Brad is especially experienced in supporting vulnerable populations (which has been his professional focus for the past 25 years) and making sure marginalized voices are heard and amplified in his work.

Fiscal Responsibility:

As a community, we have many needs. We need to be fiscally responsible while still addressing these important issues. Brad is committed to finding smart solutions that balance the needs of our community with responsible spending. He understands that as the city budget is increased, property taxes go up on our aging homeowners, young families, and everyone in between. As Alder, Brad will work to find solutions that are fiscally responsible while still addressing the important issues facing our community. He believes in making smart investments in our community's future and is committed to creating a better and more equitable future for all residents of District 15.

THANK YOU!

Thanks to everyone who came to meet me at the campaign launch at Garver Feed Mill. It was great to talk with each of you and hear what is important to you. I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks!
