Brad achieved his fame as a guitarist for the Christian band Third Day.
Avery graduated from Washington High School in 1989. During college, he joined a touring company out of Florida called Young American Showcase that would play at school assemblies, relating a positive message to the students about self-esteem and avoiding drugs. After doing that for a couple of years, which was grueling work (playing almost 500 shows in two years) but tremendous experience, Brad moved to Atlanta to try to enter the music business.
After one of Avery’s shows in Atlanta, Third Day approached him and asked if he wanted to join the band. After a couple of sketchy rehearsals, they started to find their groove.
Brad changed the Third Day sound. Adding a second guitar to the band and bringing a more rock feel defined the band’s sound, which made it popular worldwide.
Avery was with Third Day from 1996-2008 and was a member during the first seven albums of the band’s 13-album discography. In 2008, Brad and Third Day parted ways.
Ultimately, Avery has three Grammy awards for his work with the band, and Third Day is in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. They sold over seven million albums and had 28 #1 hits on the Christian music charts.
Brad now lives a private life out of the public gaze.
