For around a year now, my 19F friend 19F Alisha has been saving up to get braces. Her teeth are super bad and she has a lot of overcrowding and a bad open bite that she's struggled with for years now, with cleaning her teeth and eating certain foods like burgers. When she was younger, she wasn't able to get braces due to her parents not being able to afford them and they aren't free in our country, so she's been saving up ever since we left high school.

I've always had straight teeth but had an overbite I've been self conscious of. I never considered braces before because I always thought they were just to treat crooked teeth. However, as Alisha has talked about them constantly this past year, I got curious and decided to look into them. I realized that braces fix more than just crooked teeth and that I might benefit from them so last month I booked a consultation and the orthodontist said I was a good candidate for them.

However, after talking with one of our other friends, Kacey 19F, she said that the reason Alisha is so upset is because I didn't wait until she got braces first and I never asked her if it would be okay if I got them as well. I understand that Alisha has wanted them since she was a kid but it's not like she wanted a specific tattoo and I got it, lots of people have braces so I feel like I shouldn't have had to ask for her permission to get them.

Edit - I just want to say thanks to everyone who commented on this post. I really wasn't sure if I what I did was messed up as I've always had people call me conceited and entitled throughout my life so I wanted an outside perspective. I've decided to cut this friend off because she's been like this our whole lives, always bringing up my wealth and how her family couldn't afford this when I could etc and I just think if that's how she feels then it isn't worth staying friends with her.
