Consider scheduling the S4 recess earlier in the day so that S4 students can focus better in class and perform optimally in their O/N level examinations.
Response from Year Heads
We certainly understand that it is hard to focus on an empty stomach and we are glad you realised that. Since the upper sec students generally have lessons that end at a later time than the lower sec students, it makes sense for their recess and lunch break timings to come AFTER that of the lower sec students, as the current plan is. This ensures they have food in their tummy to sustain them for the day. Shifting their recess to an earlier timing will lengthen the duration between their recess and lunch times, which is not ideal.
Besides, allowing the graduating students to go for their recess first does not ensure that they will eat during your break. If we understand that research shows that students who start their day with a healthy breakfast do better in school, all BPians, whether you are graduating this year or later, should have your breakfast before coming to school so you can also focus during the lessons that take place before your respective recess times. During recess, you can enjoy some snacks and take a mental break at the current time slots.
Opinion #2
It is suggested that students be offered a wider variety of CCA options, such as:
Introducing a girls’ basketball CCA
Introducing a Malay Dance CCA
Expanding sports CCAs available for both boys and girls
Response from HOD CCA
Some of the key considerations for starting a CCA.
- student interests
- resources
- sustainability
Over the years, the school intake of Secondary 1 students has reduced from 10 classes at its prime to now 7. With the reduction in numbers, there is a need to re-look our CCA offering as resources are limited. In recent years, the following have been closed down or reformatted due to the smaller enrollment:
1) Closing down of Canoeing
2) Conversion of Military Band to Concert Band
3) Conversion of Hockey to Floorball
4) Closing down of Malay Dance
The school has excelled in many CCAs that are currently available. To start another new CCA will mean that other CCAs will not have enough members and this will affect their programmes which need a critical mass in order to continue meaningfully and to maintain that standard of excellence.
With the increasing number of students entering BPGHS with diverse interests and backgrounds, it will not be possible to cater to all. However, the school allows for representation at NSG for students who have some form of external training on their own and wish to represent school e.g. Bowling, Swimming and Wushu. Students are also allowed to form interest groups and represent school in competitions, for e.g. Cross country, Frisbee.

We would like to request permission to use Spotify on our PLDs
Response from HOD ICT
MOE and the school will set the level of web content filtering, including filtering out objectionable content or content that may not be conducive to teaching and learning. By default, all social media sites are blocked. With the ability to ‘share’ music with others, Spotify could be deemed to be under this category.
However, the school can write in to MOE to request to whitelist certain sites if there are sufficient reasonable grounds for doing so. If there is really a need for Spotify to be whitelisted, students can take the initiative to write in to the school citing reasons for the request to whitelist the site.
Upon receiving the email request from students, we will also need to check in with the teachers to seek their opinion. If generally their opinion is positive, we will then forward the email to MOE for their consideration.
The ultimate decision lies with MOE.

Please give us a 3-5 mins stretching period in the middle of every assembly period.
Response from HOD SM
I think this is a good idea. I have no issues giving students a few minutes to stand and stretch in the middle of the assembly period (in the MPH). However please note that this shouldn’t be used as an excuse for students to go to the toilet.
Opinion #5
We suggest having a gentle bell or short tune play every 30 minutes during lessons, so students can stand and stretch. This can help reduce discomfort from prolonged sitting and promote better posture and well-being.
Response from Year Heads
The contributor of this suggestion is quite right we should not stay sedentary at our seats for too long. It is a good idea to get up, stretch, and move about. Doing this will improve circulation and focus, and reduce muscle stiffness and risk of chronic health conditions (not scoliosis and cancer though, unfortunately).
However, we think that it could be too disruptive to lessons for a bell to be sounded every thirty minutes. We recommend that students ask for permission to stand and stretch if they feel the need to (or if they are sleepy!). In between lessons, they should also go to the toilet or refill their bottles at the water cooler so they can be less restless during lesson time.
Opinion #6
I would like to kindly request that chairs be provided during assemblies on D1. I, along with several friends from different levels, experience significant back and leg discomfort during assemblies, and the brief stretch breaks provided often come too late to alleviate the pain.
Providing chairs would help students remain comfortable, allowing for better focus and a calmer, more attentive assembly environment. I believe this adjustment would greatly contribute to the well-being of students and enhance their engagement during assemblies.
Thank you very much for considering this request.
Response from HOD SM
Currently, there is no plan to have all students seated on chairs when we gather in the MPH. The MPH is not large enough to accommodate the school population if we all were to be seated on chairs. It will also be a logistical nightmare to arrange 1200 chairs before assembly and put them away after, as the MPH is used for multiple purposes besides for gathering the school.
We remain empathetic to the needs of students who have sustained injuries or have medical reasons for not sitting on the floor at the MPH; these students can be seated on chairs at the sides.
If you experience severe, inexplicable bodily pains from sitting on the floor, do explain your condition to your form teachers, but more importantly, see a doctor for some answers.

Please sell BP Merch this year.
Response from Student Council
After a discussion with the school leaders, we are granted permission to sell BP Merch this year!
However, the school management will impose certain restrictions to prevent BPians from giving or selling our BP Merch to non-BPians. More information will be provided soon.
Opinion #8
“When CCAs use classrooms, they should be held responsible to arrange the table and chairs precisely like before, and ensure all the things under the tables are not switched or lost.
A few days ago, Chinese Orchestra used my class, 404. The tables and chairs looked alright at first glance, except they're all switched, forcing us to move them around. You should know that my classmate has a leg injury, and could not even walk. Of course, we helped her move her things, but this just shows the lack of thoughtfulness and care towards other BPians that Chinese Orchestra has shown. Furthermore, even now, my classmate could not find his Chinese Textbook and English TYS, which he had put under his table. CO should be held accountable for this, and compensate accordingly.
In term 2, Band has also used my classroom. Similarly, the tables and chairs were not arranged properly.
All these incidents prove that the school has not made it compulsory for students to take care of classrooms when using them, or at least, enforce this rule. Thus, I suggest the school to enforce the values of Responsibility and Care for Others, especially when using shared classrooms.”
Response from Year Heads
Thank you for your contribution and consideration towards your injured classmate.
The relevant CCAs have been informed of this feedback and they say they will put effort into making sure the rooms are returned to their original state after use.
The teachers agree that all CCAs that use classrooms for their training should replace the furniture they have moved. As far as possible, the furniture should be returned to the same position they were in. However, ensuring that all furniture, especially chairs, is returned to the exact original position might be impossible even if the CCA group tries.
Bearing in mind that all form classroom will not only be used by students from the form class but also students from other subject classes and even CCAs, from now onwards, all students are reminded to:
Not leave any books or personal belongings under the desks except when you are occupying it.
Store all books and personal belongings into your personal lockers.
Retrieve what you need for the following few periods at the start of the day, during recess, and during lunch.
Return the furniture to their original positions and make sure the venue is clean before leaving the venue.
As the loss of CL and EL books cannot definitively be attributed to CO or any particular student, it would be unfair for the CCA to compensate the student.
Let’s exercise our personal responsibility and respect users who share the school compound with us so the school remains a conducive place for learning.
Opinion #9
Please allow students to have a subscription to Ace Learning again.
Response from HOD Maths
We understand that some students have found Ace Learning beneficial for their Math studies. However, while there are students who actively use the platform, the overall school-wide usage does not justify the high cost of subscription for all students. As a result, the decision was made to discontinue the school-wide subscription.
That said, we want to continue supporting students in their independent learning. On the Student Learning Space (SLS), there is an Adaptive Learning System (ALS)—a self-directed learning platform that provides Lower Secondary Math resources to help students improve their mastery of the subject. You can find more information here:
What is ALS?
https://www.learning.moe.edu.sg/ai-in-sls/aied-features/adaptive-learning-system/ (Includes a student user guide on the webpage)
How to access ALS:
https://www.learning.moe.edu.sg/student-user-guide/self-study/access-adaptive-learning-system/
Currently, ALS is only available for selected topics in Lower Secondary Math, but there are plans to expand its coverage to more topics and subjects in the future. We will keep students updated when more resources become available.
Opinion #10
We kindly request that the Chinese Orchestra be provided with a suitable and conducive venue for their CCA activities to support effective practice and performance.
Response from HOD CCA
CO combined session was supposed to be on Wednesday at the CD Shelter. Unfortunately, the original conductor, Mr Cedric Chin, is unwell and has to be replaced by another conductor who is only available on Thursdays.
Thursday is a scheduled CCA day for Band who is also using the CD Shelter which explains why CO is using the available space outside Design Studio.
This is a temporary arrangement to tide us through the SYF season. CO combined session will revert to Wednesday at CD Shelter once the SYF is over.
Opinion #11
Please approve the formation of a Floorball Girls CCA.
Response from HOD CCA
The student population has been declining over the years, with Sec 1 classes reduced to 7 classes (2025 being an exception with 8 classes) compared to 10 classes in the past.
Limited resources and a lower Sec 1 intake led to the closure of the canoe and Malay dance CCAs.
Hockey was converted to floorball, and the military band transitioned into a concert band.
Introducing new CCAs requires careful consideration, as it may lead to the closure of existing ones, affecting student morale and CCA progression.
Due to resource constraints, the school cannot accommodate all student interests.
Opinion #12
Please put a clock in the canteen
There are two clocks in the canteen now.
Opinion #13
Since students are already allowed to wear any shoes, please allow a variety of socks to provide additional personal expression while maintaining the school’s dress standards.
Response from HOD Student Management
While we understand your desire for greater freedom in attire, our current school rules around socks are in place for good reason.
Uniformity and formality
We want to maintain a degree of uniformity and formality in our students’ appearance. Allowing socks with patterns—even if they are not vulgar—can lead to socks that are loud, fanciful, or distracting. These may draw unnecessary attention and take away from the intended neat and focused look of the school uniform.
Reasonable flexibility
We also believe in giving reasonable flexibility—students already have the freedom to choose between four colours: grey, black, navy blue, and white, and may wear socks with a small logo. This strikes a balance between allowing personal preference and keeping within the boundaries of a shared dress code.
Imparting values
More importantly, rules and regulations are not just about appearance—they are part of our effort to nurture important values such as discipline, self-restraint, respect for shared norms, and consideration for others. By following common expectations, even in small matters like attire, we learn to function as a cohesive community and prepare ourselves for the expectations of future workplaces and society at large.
Opinion #14
We would like to inquire if it might be possible to consider a different supplier for our school collar pins. The current pins have quality issues, with some becoming loose or losing their backing even after minimal use. Many BPIans have experienced similar problems, and a more reliable supplier could help ensure durability and satisfaction for all students.
Response from Finance Manager
The school has provided feedback to the supplier to look into improving the quality.
Students can approach the bookshop to exchange for faulty pins, subject to bookshop’s exchange policy.
Opinion #15
Could we request not to have WA conducted during other levels’ recess or lunch? It can be quite disruptive due to the noise, especially now that the red brick area is used for sports.
Response from Year Head
The teachers will try to avoid conducting Weighted Assessments (WAs) during the recess and lunch timings of other levels to provide students with conducive test environments.
However, it could be unavoidable for WAs to happen during those timings, especially for subjects where the teacher does not have many lessons with a class in a week.
The school will be monitoring the use of the Red Brick Area for sports and games during recess and lunch timings and its impact on lessons in classrooms near the area.
Opinion #16
Could CCA leaders be allowed to book the Learning Studios, Science Niche, MP1/2, and the Future Classroom for CCA-related activities? This would help ensure fair access to these spaces and prevent misuse, such as using the rooms to hang out with friends after school, especially when other CCAs may need them for legitimate purposes.
Response from HOD CCA
All CCA venues have already been pre-assigned, and CCAs are expected to carry out their activities in their designated spaces.
If there is a need to use an alternative venue, CCA leaders should approach their respective CCA teachers to make the necessary booking.
Opinion #17
Would it be possible for the school to install a clock near the sheltered basketball court? It would help us keep track of time and ensure we return to class punctually for the next lesson.
Response from Operation Manager
Unfortunately, installing a clock near the sheltered basketball court may not be feasible, as it could be easily damaged during ball games.
We encourage students to use the school bell as a guide to keep track of time and ensure they return to class promptly.
Opinion #18
Would it be possible to consider replacing the faulty glass mirrors in the toilets with acrylic mirrors? Acrylic mirrors are a more cost-effective and safer option, as they do not crack upon impact. They are also easier to install and replace using mounting tape compared to traditional glass mirrors.
Response from Operation Manager
Thank you for your suggestion. MOE HQ will be carrying out major upgrading works for all school toilets, and BPGHS has been selected for Phase 2. The estimated timeline for Phase 2 is either December 2025 or mid-June 2026.
Hence, we will not be using school funds to carry out major upgrades between now and December 2025.
Opinion #19
We would like to request consideration for changing the material of our PE shorts. The current material is not very breathable, making it uncomfortable to wear throughout the day after PE lessons. A more comfortable and breathable material would greatly improve students’ experience.
Response from Year Head
This is the first time we have received such a concern. To better understand if this is a common issue, we will be conducting a poll through the BPvoices website. If the majority of students share similar feedback, we will bring this up with the vendor for further discussion. Otherwise, it may be considered a matter of personal preference.
Opinion #20
Would it be possible to have a dress-down day where all BPians can wear their own outfits? A dress code can be set, and perhaps a theme could be introduced so students can dress up according to it.
Response from HOD Student Management
As a school, we already have several special days such as Racial Harmony Day, Hari Raya, and Chinese New Year celebrations, where students are encouraged to come in festive attire. Despite this, we do notice that many students still opt to wear their school uniform on these days.
Additionally, PPU week, which typically is held at the end of the term, provides opportunities for students to express themselves through BP merchandise and other school-based attire. These initiatives aim to strike a balance between student expression and the values we uphold as a school community.
That said, to better understand this suggestion, we would like to ask the following questions:
What kind of days or occasions you envision this “dress-down day” taking place?
What purpose or outcome do you hope to achieve through it?
What parameters or guidelines do you think should be in place to ensure it remains respectful and inclusive?
What are some possible issues that may arise should we allow this?
Submit your reply through BPvoices webpage or you may directly email Mr Hafiz.
