Chess club
Beaulieu Preparatory has an active chess club which is open to pupils from Grade Three onwards.
We meet for social practices two mornings a week. On Tuesday afternoons there are two coaches in attendance who give the pupils guidance and lessons. The team members get to play matches most Tuesday afternoons, or they join the coaching sessions.
An exciting new development has been that the team members are playing matches online, on their iPads, against other schools. This has saved us a lot of time and we can compete in the safe environment of our own school. There is a chess ladder, where pupils can challenge someone two places higher than they are. This has led to healthy competition.
Playing chess is beneficial for the children who take part as it builds cognitive thinking and strategy development skills.
