Kid Librarian

Tuesdays, September 8th - November 24th

For grades K-5.

How would YOU like to create a book display for the Children's Department? We will meet with you to help you curate your own book display that will be featured for one week. Choose the books, make the sign and add your own personal touch! You'll learn how to use our catalog system, and you'll even get to go behind the desk to scan the books! Fill out the "job application" on our website, or in person at the Children's Desk to participate.

Children's Choice Awards

For grades 3-6.

Read the eight titles listed below and choose which one you think is best. The voting link will be emailed in the spring. If you read all eight titles and vote in time, you'll be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.

Saturday Swaps

Saturdays, September 12th, October 10th, and November 14th

 at 1 p.m.

For grades K-5

Straight out of the suggestion box! You asked, we listened. Join us the second Saturday of every month to swap items with neighbors and friends. 

September: Board Game! Bring a board game that you have loved playing but are ready to part with and leave with a new one to play! Stay to try out the games and maybe make a new friend while you’re here! 

October: Craft and Supplies! Make a handmade craft to give away and be surprised with one you’ll take home. Bring extra craft supplies (bagged up) to swap with others, too. Buttons, beads, stickers…crafting treasures for all! 

November: Recipes! Bring a typed or neatly hand-written copy of your favorite recipe, along with a sample of the recipe to share! 

Register for each session separately beginning on the first of the respective month. 

Grandparents' Day Storytime

Sunday, September 13th at 1:30 p.m.

For ages 3-6 with a caregiver.

 Grab your grandparent(s) and join us for a special storytime celebration! We’ll read stories, sing songs, make a keepsake craft, enjoy some treats, and play board games! 

Register beginning August 15th. 

Letters to Neighbors

Mondays, September 14th, October 12th & November 9th at 6:30 p.m.

For grades K-5.

Did you ever wish for a pen pal? Now’s your chance to connect with a neighbor and exchange letters every month! We’ll pair you with a senior adult pen pal from Bethel Park’s Lifespan group and each month will hold new ideas and activities. After three exchanges, we’ll meet our pen pals in person for a fun social gathering before the holidays! Consistent attendance is strongly encouraged, but activities can be done at home and dropped off at the Library, so occasional missed meetings should not discourage anyone from participating.

Eat the Rainbow

Saturday, September 19th at 2 p.m.

For grades K-2.

Nutrition is important! Processed and unhealthy food continue to be advertised and sold in stores. We will discuss the food pyramid, break down each level, and provide examples of healthy eating and maintaining a “balanced” diet. Interactive activities will be provided throughout the event to emphasize the concepts through creative methods. This program is presented by the University 

of Pittsburgh’s Care4Kids Club.

Graphic Novel Club

Wednesdays, September 23rd, October 21st & November 25th at 6 p.m.

For grades 4-6.

Each meeting we’ll discuss a different graphic novel, starting with Speak Up, Santiago by Julio Anta. Please be sure to read the book before the meeting. Stop by the Children’s Desk to pick up a copy of the graphic novel –and feel free to join us to talk about the book if you’ve already read it!

Little Yogis

Tuesday, October 6th at 6 p.m.

For grades K-2.

Come ready to move, play, breathe, and have a blast! Join us for a fun yoga class where we will learn some basic poses and use our imaginations as we explore movement and breath. Please bring a yoga mat or large towel.

Kids Yoga

Tuesday, October 6th at 7 p.m.

For grades 3-5. 

Come explore yoga with creative movement, breath exercises, and fun games! We will also work on some mindfulness activities to help you feel calm and focused. Please bring a yoga mat or large towel.

3D Paper Craft

Tuesday, October 13th at 6 p.m.

For grades 2-4.

Transform flat sheets of colorful cardstock into incredible, dimensional masterpieces through folding, curling, and assembling. This hands-on, engaging class builds fine motor skills and spatial awareness while letting your imagination run wild.

Daddy Daughter Hair Salon

Saturday, October 17th at 3 p.m.

For grades K-2.

A stylist from Grey Rose Salon is coming to teach your dad (or any favorite grown-up!) how to do your hair. They’ll learn to detangle your hair (no more ouchies!) and how to put it into different hairstyles. Then, we’ll switch, and you’ll get a chance to do your grown-up's hair! Combs and hair accessories will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

Bunnies and Books

Sunday, October 25th at 1 p.m.

For grades K-5.

Hop on over to the Library and meet some new bunny friends! These furry, cuddly pals await your stories. They're all ears! Bring a favorite book from home—or pick one out when you arrive! You'll get five minutes of cozy reading time with each bunny, followed by a fun craft project to take home.

What's Cookin'

Monday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m.

For grades K-5

It’s almost Halloween; a time for tricks and for treats! Come listen to a story and make a surprise dessert. Bring your appetite and your creativity, too.

Holiday Open Art Studio

Monday, November 30th at 6 p.m.

For grades 3-5.

Use your creative skills to make a one-of-kind holiday gift for someone special. We will provide the materials and wrapping paper. Bring your enthusiasm and cheer
