Healthcare for All.
Our country ranks as among the lowest performers in healthcare in Asia. For a country that has one of the highest per capita incidences of potentially fatal illnesses in the world such as diabetes, heart attack/stroke and chronic kidney disease, we fail miserably in preventing and treating disease.
We lack a coherent national healthcare strategy to combat all major forms of disease and, more importantly, an effective strategy to prevent the onset of such debilitating illnesses.
The Government does not have a program to educate the people how to avoid serious lifestyle diseases, which at this time constitute more than 80% of all fatalities due to illnesses.
We must address the shortage of adequately staffed and equipped hospitals and healthcare facilities, nationwide. More to the point, we should ensure that any Filipino can gain access to professional medical care anywhere in the country. The government should conduct a performance audit of all national and local government owned healthcare facilities to determine what shortcomings there are in each facility, and, to develop/implement a plan to not only correct the deficiencies but also to provide for the continuous improvement of these very vital of institutions.
We need to establish a medical scholarship program to finance the education of the next generation of medical practitioners and enroll them in the country’s top colleges and universities. Moreover, we need to be able to identify promising young nurses, interns and doctors and fund their continuing education in centers of advanced medicine throughout the world and in areas of specialization where we lack trained practitioners such as the genetics, neurosciences and transplant micro-surgery.
We have to take a serious look into the scope of coverage and operations of Philhealth, to identify inconsistencies to it charter. We need to compare Philhealth with successful healthcare systems throughout the world, what these other systems offer to their citizenry would be the barometers we will use to develop a universal healthcare system for the Filipino.
The party is going to push for the systematic provision of healthcare assistance to people afflicted with kidney disease. The intent is to provide full coverage/funding of their dialysis and medicine needs.
The party is also going to initiate an information dissemination program aimed at preventing all lifestyle diseases. Most disease fatalities nowadays are borne out of an un-healthy lifestyle. Continuously educating the populace will help reduce the incidence of serious disease.
BPO Party will push for the provision of free medicines to all our countrymen, focusing immediately with the mandatory and consistent supply of maintenance pharmaceuticals to our senior citizens.
The BPO Party is committed to fulfilling the dream of Universal Health Care and a healthy Filipino.
