You can find information on the 8 larps for BOX 2027 below.
Access information is included for each Larp. Unless it says otherwise, games will take place in well-lit rooms with seating available, and involve social roleplay with minimal physical activity. (For information on the venue see the Practical page.)
Morning Slot (10am - 2pm)
The Highgate Club
Organised by Daniel Taylor
Light-hearted, Social, Mystery
12-14 players
Overlooking Highgate cemetery, the exclusive Highgate Club accepts only those who live extraordinary lives. Membership is by invitation only, and ranges from hospital directors to naval officers, professors and indie musicians. (And - so rumour has - warlocks, immortals, vampires, or even things. But nobody knows for sure. It would be impolite to inquire about another member.)
The “inner circle” of senior members – Commodore Ed Crouch, Kensington Hammersmith, and Tris St. James – are present tonight. They’re sure to discuss the two prospective new members, and the recent passing away of senior member Mycroft Holmes.
All characters can be any gender.
There will be written character briefings to read before play begins.
Content warnings: some characters using (fictional) drugs.
Like a Circle in a Spiral
Organised by Dorian Crane & Olwen Lachowicz
Psychedelic, Religious, Reflective
10 players
Like a Circle in a Spiral is set in a hippie commune in 1960s San Francisco. The residents of the commune have come together to perform a ritual during an LSD trip where they are seeking to speak with 'the powers beyond' as part of their quest to expand their minds and learn about themselves.
This game will involve music and some moving, multi-coloured lights.
Play will involve some movement around the space and conversation.
There will be some light reading and writing during the workshop before the game, but it is unlikely to be an element of play.
Content warnings: Drug consumption as a core theme. Some play on sex and romance.
Tiny Ton
Organised by Luamity (James Burrell, Verity-Louise Southam & Lucy Deans)
Regency, Romance, Repuation
20-30 players
All the thrills of your favourite regency drama. Compacted into a single afternoon like a dwarf star full of romance and scandal. Spend the day at the most fashionable ball in town at the request of Lady Shropshire, court eligible bachelors, partake in afternoon tea, cement new business deals and dare we say it, draw the attention of Lady Darjeeling and her scandalous newspaper.
This game involves elements of dancing, but this is not required as there will be characters available who do not need to dance.
There will be characters briefs and in game documents to read, with audio versions available if required.
Unearthed
Organised by Peter Green
Grief, Disability, Queerness
5 players
A year ago, you were dead. Six months ago, you were a zombie. Now, you are still dead but you have your mind back, have stopped eating people and have been deemed worthy to rejoin the land of the living, within limits, of course. You will never age, never heal and never be the same as living people. Here is your final therapy session for Partially Deceased Syndrome Sufferers.
Content warnings: Themes of grief, disability, queerness. The larp will incorporate real mindfulness techniques.
Afternoon Slot (3pm - 7pm)
Between Production Lines
Organised by Usva Inei
Emotion, capitalism, expression
15 players
Between Production Lines is a LARP about the conflicting nature of placing human beings in rational, mechanized, capitalist systems. It is about human nature and emotions, as well as how these can be expressed when suppressed.
The setting is a capitalist utopia of an industrial production line, with participants enacting the employees or cogs of the system. The context pushes the characters to be as rational and objective as possible, yet human nature emerges to push back with emotions and subjective experiences. Characters will slowly begin discovering and interacting with emotions individually and communally.
The larp includes some reading (in big font) and non-messy art-making.
Fading Embers
Organised by Matt Overton
Tragedy, Endings, Angst
10 players
The end is here. The apocalypse has happened. The light is fading away.
You find yourself at the edge of the world as everything vanishes into darkness. What do you do in your final moments?
Fading Embers is a tragic horror game about the end of the world, and what you choose to do when you know you will soon be dead. None of the characters will survive this game.
This game is inspired by games like 10 candles (by Stephen Dewey/Cavalry Games) and Last Night on Earth (by Cat Evans).
For the game: this game involves lighting effects and darkness, it is not suitable for people afraid of the dark. The lighting effects will not include any strobe effects.
The game generally requires some physics movement between 3 distinct areas. However players can be stationary/seated within those areas. Alternations can be made game structure to accommodate anyone who may struggle with this.
THE QUEUE
Organised Cat Kelly & Sarah McPherson
Choice; Freedom; Social
15-30 players
You are at a live-action role playing event, and there is A Queue. You are in The Queue.
You’re not quite sure WHY you are in The Queue, but you definitely joined it for a reason. You MUST have joined it for a reason. Right?
THE QUEUE is an absurdist romp inspired by Douglas Adams, Terry Gilliam, Samuel Beckett, and the extensive experiences of its creators, and is suitable for seasoned LARPers and newcomers alike. We’ll explore social bonds, free will, existential angst, and the impossibility of ever finding a pen when you need one.
Join us. Join THE QUEUE.
Low-mobility participation will be proactively supported with seating available for all players,
A short pre-briefing will give participants the opportunity to provide information on any reasonable adjustments which they may require, in confidence, and these will be fully accommodated where possible.
Pre-briefing will also provide content warnings, where these may be appropriate, and a note that anyone who wishes to leave the room and the game at any time may do so without having any attention drawn to the fact. Participants will be briefed on LARP safety tools and these will be used throughout the game.
All in-game prompts and encounters will be supported by written materials in dyslexia-friendly fonts.
Sign: A Game About Being Understood
Organised by Haplocke Sixpence
Silence, Communication, Realism
5 players
Nicaragua in the 1970s had no form of sign language. In 1977, something happened. Fifty deaf children from across the country were brought together to an experimental school in Managua. Without a shared language to express themselves, the children did the only thing they could -- they created one. In Sign, we follow a small piece of their journey.
Played in silence. No familiarity with any sign languages required at all.
This game will involve reading and writing, and physical, child-like, "play", involving other players and toys/surrounding. Touching of players may occur, but is not a written part of the game, and will be at the level of children in a playground.
Players need to be able to move between being seated at a table and playing on the floor.
Backup Games
The below games may run if any of the organisers on the schedule need are unable to attend:
The Deadliest Sin
Organised by Nicky Lawrence
Sin, secrets and silliness
7 players
The Avatars of the 7 Deadly Sins were once humans offered immortality due to their dedication to the sin they now embody. Their job is to encourage humans to commit that sin.
There was, of course, small print. It seems immortality doesn’t prevent death by supernatural causes. Nobody ever talks about what happened to those who preceded the current avatars.
In a penthouse suite in a Las Vegas hotel, you are gathering for your annual audit, hoping nothing goes wrong while you try to convince the demon known as The Boss that YOU have been the Deadliest Sin this year.
This game involves discussion of adult themes, around the seven deadly sins. Each player is given a 2-page (A4) character brief to read before (and during) the larp. These can be provided in a larger font, different colours, etc on request.
