I think a word to describe most people’s feelings about this situation is hopeless. People feel hopeless because they are forced to stay inside in order to protect other people. There are many people who are upset because they don’t think this virus could affect them because they are young and healthy. What these people fail to forget is they may be immunocompromised and might not even know it. And there certainly have to be people in their life who definitely are, so they should treat it all just the same. The people who are feeling hopeless, however, are justified. It is so hard to stay in your home for weeks on end with no permanent end in sight. Some people are hopeless because they have lost their jobs over this and don’t know how they are going to pay the bills next month. There are a lot of reasons to feel hopeless during all of this. But there has to be something to help them.
There have been bills and talk of stopping all debt for the time being proposed. Nothing is really too sure at this point and it is all a bit scary for everyone involved. While normal people cannot offer financial aid to people in despair, we can offer them other things. With most concrete stores shut down and even online stores limiting shipping, it is hard to think of things we could give people to lighten their spirits. Here a few cheap ideas even if you don’t have a few extra bucks to spare.
Candy
Since grocery stores are staying open during this time, candy boxes are a great way to give a little extra encouragement. Some people may have a very tight budget for goods they need from the grocery, and I’m sure candy won’t be on the list for someone who is trying to save money. If you can, spend a few extra dollars to buy candy boxes for people in your life. You can drop them off on their doorstep for them to enjoy later.
Flowers
Springtime is upon us and flowers are a beautiful gift. You could look for wildflowers to pick, or you could spend a few extra dollars and buy them from the grocery stores that are still open. Better yet, try to find a local florist who still has an online shop or a few open hours throughout the week. This way you are doing something kind for a friend, and supporting a local business owner in dire time of need.
