SOLIDWORKS is 3D product design software that provides tools for parametric modeling, assembly creation, and 2D technical drawing, helping engineers move from concept to production. It allows users to design parts, simulate performance with finite element analysis and other simulations, create computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) instructions, and manage design data.

Project 1: Intro to Solidworks - Pressure Plate

Lesson Objectives for this Project

Creating base, boss, and cut features from sketches
Adding fillets to smooth edges
Adding drawing views
Adding centerlines, centermarks, and dimensions

The fillet feature smooths the edges of the cylinders.

The extrude feature is used to create the base of the pressure plate

The circular pattern feature is used to copy one cylinder (pink) to create the other 5 (blue).

Project 2: First Part

Lesson Objectives:

The extruded boss created the base of the part

The cut that made a hole through the part

The shell feature hollowed out the inside of the part

Project 2: Second Part

The extruded boss created the base for the second part

Extruded cut that created the edge for the first part to attach to

The shell feature was used to hollow out the inside of the box

Project 3: Assemblies

Adding parts to an assembly
Moving and rotating components in an assembly
Creating display states in an assembly

Features used:

I used the assembly feature to combine parts 1 and 2
Mates allow the parts to fit together properly

Project 4: Fillets

Using relations in sketches
Adding draft angles to extruded features

I used the revolved base feature to create the base for the candle holder

I used the swept base feature to make the handle for the candle holder

I used the extruded cut feature to create the hole where a candle would go

Project 5: Product

I used the revolved base feature to create the base of the thumbtac

I used the sweep feature to make the pointy part of the thumbtac
