If you want immersive, high-fidelity sound with adaptive noise cancellation for long-haul travel, choose Bowers & Wilkins PX; if you need a versatile all-in-one solution for TV watching, calls, and hearing aid compatibility, choose Avantree Multi-Use ANC Earbuds.
• Bowers & Wilkins PX: Delivers best-in-class acoustic performance with premium materials and 22-hour battery life, but sits in the over-ear category which may feel bulky for some sleepers.
• Avantree Multi-Use ANC Earbuds: Offers incredible versatility with a dedicated TV transmitter, low-latency audio, and Auracast support, though it lacks the expansive driver size of a full headphone.
• The Verdict: Choose the Bowers & Wilkins PX for the serious audiophile who prioritizes music quality on flights or in quiet offices; pick the Avantree earbuds for the multitasker who needs to switch seamlessly between TV, phone calls, and mobile listening.
The Bowers & Wilkins PX is engineered for those who treat their listening experience as an event rather than a background activity. This isn't just about turning up the volume; it is about reproducing sound exactly as the artist intended. The product draws on decades of design heritage, utilizing drive units taken directly from the P9 Signature headphones. This means you get optimized listening performance that feels natural, thanks to drivers that are subtly angled to provide a more authentic stereo perspective. If you have ever felt like other headphones flatten the music or make it sound distant, the PX aims to fix that by placing you right at the heart of the recording.
For travelers, specifically those flying frequently, the PX offers a specific kind of comfort and protection. The active noise cancellation is described as "adaptive," meaning it adjusts to your environment, whether you are on a plane, walking down a busy street, or sitting in an office. This adaptability is crucial when noise levels fluctuate wildly during a journey. Furthermore, the smart power features are designed for the person who forgets to charge or put away their gear. You can lift an ear cup to pause playback instantly, and simply putting the headphones down sends them into a power-saving sleep mode. Picking them up resumes playing immediately. With a claimed battery life of 22 hours, these headphones are built to last through even the longest international routes without needing a recharge.
However, this product is not for everyone. The PX is an over-ear design, which implies a different physical footprint than earbuds. While the build quality uses premium materials to ensure durability, the on-ear placement might be too warm for hot climates or uncomfortable for those who wear glasses. Additionally, to get the absolute best performance, users must install the latest firmware via the dedicated Bowers & Wilkins Headphones app. If you prefer a completely set-and-forget experience without needing to manage software updates or app connections, this extra step might feel like a hurdle. It is also worth noting that while the Bluetooth range extends to 10 meters, the latency is listed at 200 milliseconds. For casual music listening, this is imperceptible, but for video editing or gaming where lip-sync is critical, this latency might be a limitation compared to specialized low-latency devices.

The Avantree Multi-Use ANC Earbuds are built for the modern user who jumbles multiple audio sources throughout their day. Unlike traditional headphones designed solely for music, these earbuds function as a complete home entertainment system. The standout feature is the inclusion of the Audikast 4 transmitter, which allows you to connect wirelessly to any TV with an Optical/TOSLINK or 3.5 mm AUX output. This transforms your living room into a private theater where you can enjoy movies at your preferred volume without disturbing others. The low-latency audio ensures that the sound stays perfectly synchronized with the screen, eliminating the annoying delay often found in standard wireless setups.
Beyond the TV, these earbuds shine in their ability to handle daily communication and accessibility needs. They support Auracast broadcasts, which means they can join compatible audio streams in public venues or work with supported hearing aids. This makes them a practical choice for individuals who rely on assistive listening technology. The device also manages call interruptions intelligently; you can answer a phone call directly through the earbuds while watching TV, and once the call ends, they automatically reconnect to the TV audio stream. This seamless switching is a game-changer for parents or professionals who cannot afford to miss a notification while enjoying their downtime. The six customizable EQ modes—Pop, Rock, Vocal, Live, Classical, and Bass—allow you to tailor the sound signature to whatever content you are consuming, ensuring that dialogue remains crisp during dramas and bass hits hard during action scenes.
That said, the Avantree earbuds come with specific constraints that potential buyers must consider. The TV connectivity relies heavily on the presence of specific ports; HDMI-only TVs or soundbar passthrough setups are explicitly not supported. If your home theater system only outputs via HDMI, you will need an adapter or a different setup entirely. The design is also inherently different from the Bowers & Wilkins option; as earbuds, they sit inside the ear canal rather than encompassing it. While this makes them excellent for mobility and potentially better for side-sleeping due to their lower profile, they do not offer the same physical isolation or "hugging" sensation of a large over-ear cup. They are ideal for the "multi-use" crowd who value functionality and versatility over the sheer acoustic dominance of a flagship headphone.

• Best for Long Flights → Bowers & Wilkins PX, whose over-ear design and 22-hour battery life are superior for extended travel sessions.
• Best for Active Mobility → Avantree Multi-Use ANC Earbuds, which are smaller and less intrusive for moving around the house or city.
After weighing the specifications and use cases, I would buy the Bowers & Wilkins PX for my personal travel needs. The combination of 22-hour battery life and adaptive noise cancellation makes it the superior choice for flights, where uninterrupted music and deep immersion are paramount. While the Avantree earbuds are undeniably clever for home TV setups, the PX delivers a level of acoustic depth and comfort that is necessary for long-duration listening sessions away from home. In my opinion, if you are looking for bluetooth sleep headphones for flights or simply want to lose yourself in music without distraction, the larger form factor and premium drivers of the Bowers & Wilkins unit win out. However, if your primary concern is managing a chaotic home environment with constant TV and call switching, the Avantree earbuds remain a strong contender for their unique multi-purpose design.
While both options offer noise cancellation, the Bowers & Wilkins PX is generally better suited for flights due to its longer battery life and over-ear comfort for long durations. The Avantree earbuds are lighter and might be more comfortable for side-sleeping, but the PX excels in sustained use.
HDMI-only TVs are not supported without additional adapters or converters.
While basic functions work without it, the manufacturer recommends installing the dedicated app to update firmware and customize settings for the best performance.
Both products utilize touch controls for noise management and playback. The Bowers & Wilkins PX features a natural UI with built-in sensors that detect removal, while the Avantree earbuds allow for call handling and EQ switching via the companion app.
