Hello, my name is Doyon, and I am a student at Brea Olinda High School. I decided to put together this event to inspire students to have career goals. Especially during the pandemic, it can be difficult to learn about different careers and what to do to attain them. I wanted to reach the students that were unsure of what field they might want to pursue, to hopefully inspire them to dive deeper into the diverse fields that are available to this generation. Therefore, I decided to hold this virtual event to show off talented, hard-working people in our community. Through my Girl Scouts Gold Award project, I hope to continue this event annually, and I can't wait to see it grow and inspire youth!
Have you thought about what you want to do for a career when you grow up? If you don't it's okay because many students don't know either. Sometimes, they might not have the available resources to learn about career fields in a way that grasps their attention or sparks interest. In a study of 165,000 high school students, less than half of the students felt confident about their preparedness for college and future careers. Students are expected to discover their interests in high school, but without the right exposure to a variety of occupations, students don't have the passion or attraction to careers, especially in the STEM field. Therefore, through this virtual event, hopefully, you will be able to find some points of interest or what it takes to attain your future career.
