About the Band
John Hoffman - Music Director Emeritus
The Boulder Big Band was formed in 1997 under the direction of John Hoffman. John has been a music educator for most of his life. Through the Boulder Big Band, John has been able to continue his passion to lead and educate musicians. John plays the trumpet and the baritone. John has passed music director responsibility to Sheri VandeRiet. He has retired from playing but is still our greatest fan.
Sheri VandeRiet - Band Leader
Sheri has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and plays the alto and soprano saxophones and piano. She has been with the Boulder Big Band since the beginning and now runs the band.
The Boulder Big Band, Combo Band, and Oktoberfest Band is a service coordinated by Sheri VandeRiet. Each musician in the group operates as an independent contractor.
Sheri has a core set of musicians as well as various area musicians that she pulls in as needed to form the Big Band, Combo, and Oktoberfest band. The Big Band is her primary focus.
