The real pub behind the series.
The Salutation is a real family-run pub in Doncaster and the inspiration and filming location for Salutations.
Run by the Wilsdon family since 2016, the pub brings together two sides of the family’s identity: a traditional Northern local downstairs and a Thai restaurant upstairs.
That combination became the starting point for the series. A place where Yorkshire pub culture, Thai family life, hospitality, staff, regulars and generations of customers all exist together under one roof.
The Salutation is more than a location for the show. It is the world that made it possible.
The show is fictional. The world it comes from isn't.
Salutations draws inspiration from years spent living and working inside a family-run pub.
While the characters and stories are fictional, the environment is very real: the characters you meet behind a bar, the politics of a staff room, the regulars who become part of the furniture and the strange intimacy that develops when a business, a family and a community all occupy the same space.
The series also reflects creator Joshua J. Wilsdon’s own British-Thai background and his experience growing up between two cultures.
Rather than treating identity as the story itself, Salutations allows it to simply exist as part of the world, alongside pints, family arguments, quiz nights, Sunday dinners and everything else that comes with running a pub in the North of England.
The Salutations pilot was made possible by a collaborative cast and crew working across directing, cinematography, sound, production, editing and performance.
The production brought together filmmakers from MetFilm School alongside independent professional crew, all working on location in Doncaster to build the visual language and mockumentary style of the series.
The pilot was created and produced by Joshua Wilsdon and Emma L. Wilsdon through Bottom of the Barrel Productions.
The world of Salutations is built around family, staff and regulars, the people who make a pub feel like a pub.
At the centre is the Wilsdon family, surrounded by an ensemble of employees and locals whose relationships stretch far beyond simply serving and drinking at the same bar.
Together, they create a community that can be affectionate, frustrating, ridiculous and occasionally impossible, but one that ultimately keeps coming back to each other.
The first pilot episode of Salutations was filmed in August 2026 at The Salutation in Doncaster.
Produced as Joshua Wilsdon’s Final Major Project during his MA in Screen Acting at MetFilm School, the pilot brought together a professional and emerging crew to establish the characters, tone and world of the series.
Rather than recreating the environment on a set, the production was filmed inside the working family pub that inspired it, giving the pilot a sense of authenticity that sits at the heart of the project.
The pilot represents the first step in developing Salutations as a returning television comedy.
The pilot is the beginning of Salutations, rather than the end of it.
Bottom of the Barrel Productions is developing the project as an original returning television comedy and is interested in connecting with producers, production companies, commissioners and creative partners who can help take the series into its next stage.
The world is already there.
Now we want to open the doors.
