Botsford Cemetery

Botsford Cemetery is located on Toddy Hill Road in Newtown, Connecticut. It is a very small burial ground situated between Toddy Hill and the old railroad tracks. Because of its size and the repetition of surnames, I think it's safe to say that this is a family burying ground. Common names located within include Botsford, Wheeler, Davis and Bradley. The majority of the stones date from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s and approximately three-quarters of the stones are illegible. It seems that in early 2022, Botsford Cemetery was restored. All the stones were positioned perfectly upright and the stones were bright and clean.

Estimated number of interments, as of January 2024: at least 104.

"Emeline Wheeler,

Feb. 5, 1890,

Died aged 39.

Faithful - loving - true.

Our hopes grow brighter

as we near the shining shore;

for we know across the river

wait the loved ones gone before."

This small stone simply says, "Margery."

Margery Beers Blakeman,

daughter of Austin B. & Ada M.,

died Jan. 25, 1889, aged 7 days.

The obelisk in front belongs to 

the Botsfords:

George W. (Feb. 28, 1854 - Aug. 12, 1894)

Mary J. (1854 - 1909)

Henry S. (1888 - 1940)

The small stone to its left is inscribed, "Glover."

Glover Botsford, son of George & Mary, age 9 months., 7 days. 

"George A. Bradley 

Co.  A. 14 Reg't.

Conn. Vol's."

Bradley was the rank of\ Private.

Conn. Vol. Died Apr. 30, 1908, age 82;

Caleb Davis, Sr., Co. E 150 Inf. N.Y. Vols

Died July 19, 1901, age 91.
