The Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) as par the evaluation norms of Gauhati University, the department has adopted an assessment process that considers all aspects of student’s progress by assessing the academic performances of students on a continuous basis. The department of Botany, Rangapara College exercise regular evaluation in each semester which includes assessment from Sessional Tests, Home Assignments , Students seminar/ Quiz ,Group discussions, and Attendance.
· To evaluates a student's progress throughout a prescribed course
· To provide scope for learners for self assessment.
· To make the assessment process an essential part of teaching learning process
· To make Special tests for slow learners to cope up with the learning process.
Action Plan:
Criteria for Identification of Slow and Advanced Learners:
Sessional Examination, Home Assignments and Class Tests are conducted for the internal assessment of the students.
The mark allotted for Sessional Examination is 20, Home Assignment for 25 marks, whereas mark allotted for Class Tests depends on the teacher.
Marks are awarded for all the above components and the average is taken as the internal mark.
Based on the internal marks slow learners are identified.
Special tests are conducted for the slow learners. More assignments are given to them for practices.
All the students are informed about their mistakes and weakness in particular paper and are properly guided to improve their performances in the coming examination.
Following Special activities are conducted for Slow Learners:
Remedial classes are arranged for the slow learner students.
Individual academic counseling is done by concerned subject teacher.
Students study groups are formed for peer-to-peer learning.
Personal counseling is done through mentoring (Teacher guardian).
Following Special activities are conducted for Advanced Learners:
i) Guiding for career planning.
ii) Discussion or seminar on the advanced topic
iii) Guiding the students for Competitive Examinations.
· It would allow for incremental feedback to identify problems of the students at their earliest stages.
. Students should be able to encourage their critical thinking and broaden their soft skills which can help them get ready for challenging situations and actively participate in their learning process by random questioning, and asking for suggestions .
· Students participation in learning process and development should promote their thinking skills.
For mentoring the capability of learning and student progress, the department adopts the following methods to find out the slow, medium and Fast learner.
1. To enhance the performance of the slow learners’ department of Botany created digital e-contents and uploaded those study materials at college departmental websites.
2. The department creates class video lectures for the students (specially for slow learners). The link of which are shared with the students, so that they can view it whenever they want.
3. For the better performance of the advance learners or fast learners’ previous year’s question papers are also provided to them.
4. Also, for the benefit of the fresh students, invited talks are also organized by the department of Botany from time to time. From those talks they are able to know the new discoveries and innovations in the field of science and technology.
5. For the slow learner the department initiated the step to adapt the remedial/ doubt clearing class sessions.
