JAMMU, May 23: Department of Botany of Government Degree College Kathua celebrates International Day of Biological Diversity on 23rd May, 2022 A national level online quiz competition and slogan writing competition will be organized by the Department of Botany, GDC Kathua. The theme of this year was "Building a shared future for all life".
The online quiz and the slogan writing competitions were organized under the overall supervision and guidance of Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia Principal of the college. In these events Prof. Ram Krishan HOD Botany acts as Convenor of the Quiz and Slogan whereas, Prof. Rupali Nanda acted as Coordinator to these events. Dr. Surya Pratap Singh, Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Dr. Shveta Saroop were also members of the organising team.
Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal GDC Kathua appreciated the department of botany for successful organizing the quiz and slogan writing competition and encouraged the department for organising more such events in the future. He also emphasized the need of saving the biodiversity on the earth and make the future more sustainable to all living organisms.
Prof. Ram Krishan while giving details of quiz and slogan writing competition said that response of students was overwhelming, as large number of Undergraduate and post graduate students and different research scholars of different colleges and universities of Jammu UT including GDC Kathua, GCW Kathua, Gdc Hiranagar, GDC Nowshera, GCW Gandhinagar, GGM Science College Jammu, GDC Anantnag, PG College Rajouri , Ladakh UT, Madhya Pardesh took part in the Quiz competition.
In the Online Quiz Competition, more than 200 students participated out of which more than 150 Students scored more than 70 percent marks and got e certificate. Shazia Ashraf Naik from GCW Gandhinagar Jammu secured 1st position, Nekha sharma and Vishali from GDC Kathua and Shagun Bhutyal, Khushi Samotra, Aliza Sambyal, Mitali Dhotra, Tanishka Rohmetra from GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu shared 2nd position. Issha Sharma, Shruti Rajput, Rina Sharma , Sonia Choudhary from GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu shared 3rd position in the quiz.
In the slogan writing, 50 students from different colleges from J&K UT participated . out of which, Pallavi Sharma and Kashish Jarotia from GDC kathua secured 1st position, Siya Sharma and Nadia Mirza from GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Leela parveen from GDC Kargil secured 3rd position.
The advisory committe of the Quiz Competition comprised of Prof. Romila Gularia Dr. Seema Malpotra Prof. Raj Kiran Prof. Jasvinder Singh Prof. Rakesh Singh Prof. Ritu Bhagat. Others who supported included Dr. J.S. Soodan and other faculty members of different Departments for successful organisation of the event.

Jammu, May 21: Department of Botany of Government Degree College Kathua organised a field trip and interaction programme for students in collaboration with Department of Wildlife Protection, Kathua J&K on the “Parthenium biocontrol and Biodiversity awareness programme” heretoday.
A total of 30 students of BSc. Semester 5th of botany department participated in the field trip.Principal GDC Kathua, Prof SumneshJasrotia flagged off the trip to Jasrota and encouraged the students to reap the maximum benefit from the field visit.
Dr. M.K. Kumar gave introductory note and welcomed students and staff members of botany department, GDC Kathua. Then,Dr. R.K. gupta discussed the different methods to control of parthenium weed and how biocontrol is best suited for the same purpose.Dr. Neeraj Sharma Head of Institute of Mountain Environment gave a detailed presentation on the need of conservation of biodiversity and the role of biodiversity in sustaining the ecosystem services. During the trip, the students visited the various locations and observed many wild species like wild boar, barking deer and a variety of avifauna inside the sanctuary.
An interaction/technical session with participants was also organized at Jasrota Training Centre wherein Dr Ravi Verma, Wildlife Warden Kathua discussed the various species of plants and animals present in the Sanctuary and the conservation efforts of Forest Department J&K in ecosystem restoration.
Prof. Ram Krishan, Head, department of botany coordinated the event, while Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Prof. Rupali Nanda,Dr.Shveta Saroop, Dr. Mir Afaq Ahmad, Dr.Sayir Aftab were part of the field trip. Prof. Ram Krishan Informed the students that Partheniumplants is mainly a weed of waste and fallow land, hence, biological control by the Mexican beetle is the most economical and practical way to keep the weed under check.
Principal GDC Kathua Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia was accompanied by the College Faculty Prof. Seema Malpotra, Prof. Raj Kiran, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Prof. Rakesh Singh, Dr. Surya Partap Singh, Dr. J.S. Soodan, Prof. Kaurab Singh and other.

JAMMU, June 9: Department of Botany of Government Degree College Kathua celebrates World Oceans Day on 9th June, 2022 A national level online quiz competition was organized by the Department of Botany, GDC Kathua. The theme of this year was "Revitalization: collective action for the ocean".
The online quiz competition was organized under the overall supervision and guidance of Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia Principal of the college. In these event, Prof. Ram Krishan HOD Botany acts as Convenor of the Quiz whereas, Dr. Shveta Saroop acted as Coordinator to these events., Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Prof. Rupali Nanda were also members of the organising team.

In the Online Quiz Competition, more than 375 students were participated out of which more than 75 Students scored more than 70 percent mark and got e certificate. Pooja from IDS College Jammu secured 1st position, Aditya Sharma from GDC Kathua and Riya Singh from GDC Nowshera shared 2nd position. Anubhuti Angral from Hansraj College Delhi, Nijara Muchahary from Bijni College, Assam, Dipansha Khajuria and Kamiya sharma from GDC Kathua, Preeti Raina from GDC Udhampur, Anu sharma, Neha Bharti and Priya Sharma from GDC Akhnoor shared 3rd position in the quiz.
Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal GDC Kathua appreciated the department of botany for successful organizing the quiz competition and encouraged the department for organising more such events in the future. He also emphasized the need of saving the oceans as it covers over 70% of the planet. It is our life source, supporting humanity's sustenance and that of every other organism on earth

GDC Kathua students visited North India’s First Industrial Biotech Park

Jammu, May 29: A field trip was organized by the Departments of Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Fishery and Chemistry of Govt. Degree College Kathua in which 100 students visited the newly inaugurated North India’s First Industrial Biotech Park. Speaking on the occasion of flag off ceremony, Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia appreciated the efforts of Biosciences Departments in providing a golden opportunity to the students of Biotechnology, Botany Fishery, Zoology, Chemistry to visit North India’s First Industrial Biotech Park and that too in their own District Kathua in Ghatti Village. He said that these are really the proud moments for the students of GDC Kathua to pay a visit to Biotech Park which has been established by the Department of Biotechnology to translate research into products and services by providing necessary infrastructure support. Senior Faculty members Prof. Seema Malpotra, Prof. Raj Kiran, Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Rakesh Singh and Prof. Ritu Bhagat provided their valuable support and guidance in organizing the field trip.
Throwing light on the significance of Biotech parks, Prof. Neha Mahajan HOD Biotechnology told that these Biotechnology Parks offer facilities to Scientists, and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) for technology incubation, technology demonstration, and pilot plant studies for accelerated commercial development of Biotechnology. She also told that Biotech Parks of J&K are among 9 Biotechnology Parks supported by Department of Biotechnology in various States. This facility in our own district may boost employment opportunities to the local students in the field of Biotechnology. A total of 100 Undergraduate students from Botany, Biotechnology, Fisheries, Zoology and Chemistry Department participated in the said event. After their visit, students told that they were really motivated after visiting the Biotech Park with its grand infrastructure in place. They told that it was really an eye opener for them. The visit was organised by the joint efforts of Department of Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology and Fisheries and Chemistry. Prof. Rakesh Singh Dr. Surya Partap, Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Prof Neha Mahajan, Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Dr. Shveta Saroop, Prof Kaurab Singh, Prof Ram Krishan, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and Dr. Jogeshwar Dutt were instrumental in smooth conduct of the trip.

कठुआ 17 अक्टूबर (हि.स.)। राजकीय डिग्री कॉलेज कठुआ के वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग ने सोमवार को विश्व खाद्य दिवस मनाया। इस संबंध में वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग द्वारा एक राष्ट्रीय स्तर की ऑनलाइन प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया। इस वर्ष की थीम किसी को भी पीछे न छोड़ें था।
ऑनलाइन प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन कॉलेज के योग्य प्राचार्य प्रो सुमनेश जसरोटिया के समग्र पर्यवेक्षण और मार्गदर्शन में किया गया था। इस आयोजन में, प्रो राम कृष्ण एचओडी बॉटनी क्विज़ प्रतियोगिता के संयोजक के रूप में कार्य किया, प्रो निशा भगत इन आयोजनों के समन्वयक के रूप में कार्य किया, जबकि प्रो रूपाली नंदा, डॉ श्वेता सरूप, डॉ मुजफ्फर डार, डॉ शगुन बाली भी आयोजन दल के सदस्य थे। प्रो राम कृष्ण ने ऑनलाइन राष्ट्रीय स्तर की प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता का विवरण देते हुए कहा कि छात्रों की प्रतिक्रिया भारी थी, क्योंकि बड़ी संख्या में स्नातक और स्नातकोत्तर छात्र और जम्मू यूटी के विभिन्न कॉलेजों और विश्वविद्यालयों के विभिन्न शोध विद्वान जिनमें जीडीसी कठुआ, जीसीडब्ल्यू कठुआ, जीएलडीएम हीरानगर, जीजीएचएस बसोहली, पीएसपीएसजीसीडब्ल्यू गांधीनगर, जीडीसी उधमपुर, जीडीसी रामनगर, जीजीएम साइंस कॉलेज जम्मू, जीडीसी अनंतनाग, जीडीसी पुंछ, जीडीसी किशतवाड़, जीडीसी सुंदरबनी, पीजी कॉलेज राजौरी, आईडीएस कॉलेज जम्मू, जीडीसी थानामंडी, जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय, जीडीसी कारगिल, जीडीसी लद्दाख से प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता में लद्दाख यूटी, एचएनबीजीयू उत्तराखंड, एलपीयू, आरआईएमटी विश्वविद्यालय, पंजाब के गुरु नानक देव सिंह विश्वविद्यालय और अन्य ने भाग लिया।
ऑनलाइन प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता में 150 से अधिक छात्रों ने भाग लिया। जिसमें से 40 से अधिक छात्रों ने 60 प्रतिशत से अधिक अंक प्राप्त कर ई प्रमाण पत्र प्राप्त किया। जीडीसी कठुआ से ईशा भारती, जेयू से रोमिका वर्मा और भावना शर्मा ने पहला स्थान साझा किया, जीडीसी कठुआ से अयान खजूरिया और जीडीसी पुंछ से सुमिया ने दूसरा स्थान साझा किया। जीडीसी कठुआ से कुमारी वैष्णवी, वंदना देवी और राकेश सिंह, जेयू से आरती मन्हास और रूही शर्मा, जीडीसी किश्तवाड़ से बब्बर वहीद और जीडीसी सुंदरबनी से अलका शर्मा ने प्रश्नोत्तरी में तीसरा स्थान साझा किया। प्रो सुमनेश जसरोटिया, प्रिंसिपल जीडीसी कठुआ ने क्विज प्रतियोगिता के सफल आयोजन के लिए वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग की सराहना की और भविष्य में इस तरह के और आयोजन करने के लिए विभाग को प्रोत्साहित किया।
उन्होंने इस बात पर भी जोर दिया कि हमें एक बेहतर भविष्य के निर्माण के लिए एकजुटता और सामूहिक गति की शक्ति का उपयोग करने की आवश्यकता है जहां हर किसी के पास बढ़ते वैश्विक खाद्य संकट का सामना करने के लिए पर्याप्त पौष्टिक भोजन की नियमित पहुंच हो। प्रो रोमिला गुलेरिया, डॉ सीमा मालपोत्रा, प्रो जसविंदर सिंह प्रो राकेश सिंह प्रो रितु भगत, डॉ जे एस सूदन, डॉ सूर्य प्रताप सिंह, डॉ राम कृष्ण और अन्य वरिष्ठ संकाय सदस्यों ने भी आयोजन के सफल आयोजन के लिए विभाग का समर्थन किया।
