Department of Botany was established in 1982 with undergraduate courses. Department expanded further with the beginning of post graduate programme in 2015. The college followed annual examination pattern while being affiliated with Kumaun University. However, as per the recommendations of UGC, the semester system was introduced for PG classes in July 2011. Later in July 2016 semester system was introduced in undergraduate courses. At present 4 faculty members, one laboratory assistant and one lab bearer are working in the department and nearly 250 students are enrolled for UG and 40 students for PG programme. The Department has two laboratories dedicated to conducting practical courses of both B.Sc. and M.Sc. The main thrust areas of teaching and research in our Department are Plant Pathology, Systematic Botany, Plant Biotechnology, Cytogenetics & Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology,and Environmental Botany. The Department is enthusiastically engaged in teaching-learning and appropriately combining classical teaching with digital platforms to augment knowledge.

  • To provide an academic environment for the benefit of students and to promote and foster interactive learning for enhanced critical thinking and developing new ideas.

  • To appraise and disseminate the significance of plants in fostering the earth and to develop an awareness of biodiversity conservation in order to develop sustainably.

  • To sustain the development of independent learning, thinking, and employability skills of students that enrich their professions and society.

  • To continue to generate new findings and thereby intellectual growth related to understanding plants and their environment at local, regional and global scale.

  • To contribute to environmental service and its betterment.
