The Department of Botany was established in 1982 with undergraduate courses. The department expanded further with the beginning of the postgraduate programme in 2015. The college followed an annual examination pattern while being affiliated with Kumaun University. However, as per the recommendations of UGC, the semester system was introduced for PG classes in July 2011. Later in the July 2016 semester, the system was introduced in undergraduate courses. At present, 4 faculty members, one laboratory assistant, and one lab bearer are working in the department, and nearly 250 students are enrolled for the UG program and 40 students for the PG programme. The Department has two laboratories dedicated to conducting practical courses for both B.Sc. and M.Sc. The main thrust areas of teaching and research in our Department are Plant Pathology, Systematic Botany, Plant Biotechnology, Cytogenetics & Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, and Environmental Botany. The Department is enthusiastically engaged in teaching-learning and appropriately combining classical teaching with digital platforms to augment knowledge.
