DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The department of Botany is one of the oldest and renowned department from Shri Shivaji College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Akola, highly known for its academic, extracurricular and social, eminence. The department has huge history of its former heads with their valuable contributions not only in uplifting the standard of education but also in having strong affections with local communities and completed several projects for social benefit with ultimate aim of improving their living standard. The Department is also following the footprints of its former and pioneer leaders with huge scope of improvement and progressing gradually toward its supremacy.
Our department was established in 1967 with keen objective “Education for Everyone and Everything for Education”. Undergraduate classes were started from 1967 however PG were run from 1993. Due to the determined and honest hard work of staff bears and strong belief shown by the students, Department has achieved another milestone in 2000 as a symbol of its progress in the form of research lab which was sanctioned by S.G.B.A.U. Amravati to conduct Ph.D. courses. It is one of the well-known departments in Vidarbha region.

This department has experienced the golden era of former principal and HOD Dr. E.V. Upadhye sir (1963 – 2004, Expertise in Paleo-botany), Head of Dept. Dr. D.G. Bhadange sir (2004 – 2014 well know figure in Angiospermic Taxonomy) and former Head of Dept. Dr. S.P. Rothe sir (2014 – 2017, renowned name in taxonomy and Phyto-chemistry) who brought the department in the flow of current academic developments and updating the knowledge. Recently Dr. P. P. Umale, Prof. and Head (2017 – Continue till date) also working with same magnitude of skill and excellency to accomplish the goal of the department.
