The first incarnation of the Automotive Handbook was published in 1932 by Robert Bosch GmbH. Since then, the book has increased in size and stature to be considered an indispensable reference source of precise information on the subject of automotive technology. With this ninth English-language edition, the book has been revised and extended throughout into a larger format designed for ease of use by the professional automotive technician.

This book is a concise technical reference manual, providing the automotive engineer and mechanic with reliable technical data. Contents include: physics, mathematics and materials data used in vehicle engineering; motor vehicle dynamics; engine design and specifications; exhaust systems; braking systems; tyres, dimensions and design of vehicle bodies; vehicle communications and information systems; hydraulics, pneumatics; electrical engineering, vehicle lighting, and some passenger car specifications. This 5th edition of the Bosch Automotive Handbook includes new sections on fuel filters, MED-Motronic, natural gas operation (spark ignition engines, fuel cells, EHB for passenger cars, automatic cruise control, instrumentation, traffic telematics, car radios (DAB), connectors and cartronic. Conversion tables and the road traffic legislation for Germany are no longer supplied

This year we did something different. There are two books. In both cases, the backbone of the book are Breakfast Bytes posts from last year. But for the Hyperscale book there are also some posts that Frank Schirrmeister wrote for Semiconductor Engineering. And for the automotive book, in addition to more from Frank and myself, there are also some extracts from material written by Robert Schweiger.

We gave away the Hyperscale book at both CadenceLIVE Silicon Valley and the Design Automation Conference. I will have some copies to give away at CadenceLIVE Boston (September 14th). Robert will have some copies of the automotive book at Autosens Brussels (12th to 14th September). I will be at IMAPS in Boston (3rd to 6th October) and should have copies. We plan to be giving away copies of both books at CadenceLIVE Europe in Munich (21st to 22nd November). Maybe some other places too, perhaps the RISC-V Summit in San Jose (13th to 14th December). Makes a great holiday gift!
