1.       Each team shall possess a 25-player roster.

a.       A roster must consist of a minimum of the following.

                                                               i.      1 Catcher

                                                             ii.      1 First Baseman

                                                           iii.      1 Second Baseman

                                                            iv.      1 Shortstop

                                                             v.      1 Third Baseman

                                                            vi.      3 Outfielders

                                                          vii.      3 Pitchers

                                                        viii.      1 Designated Hitter

b.       All cards must be physically present with the participant at the time of the game in order to be considered for the game.

c.       A player may change their starting roster until the first roll of the dice.

d.       A player may change their pitcher after the conclusion of an at bat.

e.       All cards must be copyrighted from the year previous or earlier, unless modified by the nature of a given tournament.

f.        All cards shall be protected by a minimum of a penny sleeve.  Toploaders and Sideloaders are recommended. 

g.       Usage of all cards is at the risk of the participant.

h.       A participant may be disqualified from play for intentionally damaging the cards of another player.

i.         A participant may be disqualified from play because of physical impairment due to excessive use of drugs or alcohol.

j.         Players may not consume or possess alcohol or drugs in venues where said items are not licensed under state and local law.

k.       In the event of a spill of any sort, players shall clear their cards away from the stop, and play shall resume upon the field of play being clear of unwanted and potentially damaging substances.

l.         Wagering in any form is prohibited in markets where prohibited by law or where the owner of the host venue prohibits it. An owner of a venue may not supersede the law of the market. Where wagering is legal, the local laws and customs shall apply, including age requirements.  Participants violating this rule may be banned from future participation.

m.     WHILE THIS GAME IS INTENDED TO BE FUN AND RECREATIONAL, WHILE STILL COMPETATIVE, NO CARD SHOULD BE DAMAGED DURING IT. Damage to cards should never occur, but there is always that potential.  If you want to ensure your card is not damaged, leave it at home, where you know it is safe.

n.       A player may not use the same MLB Player in two separate positions, even if the cards are not the same. 

 i.      For instance, in 2015, Kris Bryant played 1st base for the Chicago Cubs.  In 2016, he played 3rd base. A player may not play Bryant at both 1st and 3rd; s/he must select the card s/he feels most advantageous.

            o.   Cards must not exceed 100 years in age to be played.

p.   Negro League Statistics will be recognized in totality.  However, these statistics may vary from game to game, as in-depth research to player performance is still occurring due to the lack of records historically.  1(q) for further clairity. 

q.  The official data source for Boroball is Baseball-Reference.com.  Data is as is and at the then-current moment.

r.   The copyright year of the card being used shall determine the year of statistics used and shall be equal to one another.  

s.   A player may not use a card copywritten in a year for which that player was not active.

i.   Stan Musial retired in 1963.  In 1990, Donruss honored him as the Diamond King of the Year.  However, because Musial was retired, he had no statistics for the season, and thus, his Donruss Diamond King card is not valid for play.

t.   A pitcher must have a WHIP that is greater than 0.  

2.       Tournament Play

a.       Tournament Directors shall determine bracketing for tournaments hosted by them.

b.    Tournament Directors shall register tournaments with BoroBall prior to hosting with a clear tournament format and any details of the event.  This includes card restrictions.

3.       In an effort to encourage fair play, players shall determine which die is for a pitching team and which die is for the batting team. 

a.       The player’s whose die is used for batting shall be the visiting team.

b.       Players may roll off to determine who is the home team and who is the visiting team.

4.       Gameplay      

i.      A pitcher’s value is determined by the inverse of their WHIP (Walks & Hits per Inning Pitched) times by the roll of the die.

ii.      A batter’s value is determined by their SLG (Slugging Percentage) times the roll of their die.

iii.      If the pitcher’s value is greater than the batter’s value, a strike is counted.

iv.      If the batter’s value is greater than the pitcher’s value, a hit sequence is awarded.

                                                             v.      Upon a hit being recorded, both the batter and pitcher will re-roll. The pitcher’s die shall be subtracted from the batter’s die. Bases Shall be awarded to the batter according chart labeled Exhibit A.

vi.      The batter shall be placed at the appropriate base and at-bats will occur until the pitching team has amassed 3 outs in the inning.

vii.      Upon the batting team reaching three outs, players change sides AND DICE.

viii.      Play shall continue for 9 innings.

ix.      If the home team is leading the visiting team going into the bottom half of the ninth inning, the home team shall be deemed the winner.

b.       Double Plays

i.      In order for a double play to occur, a runner must be on first base, or first and second bases, or on first, second and third bases.

1.       A net value from a hit must have been in the pitcher’s favor.

2.       The fielding team must roll another die. That die must be greater than the pitcher’s die on the hit.

3.       If the result of the die is greater than the original pitcher’s die, then both the runner and the batter are out.

4.       If the result of the die is less than the original pitcher’s die, then only the runner is out, and the batter is awarded first base.

c.       Triple Plays

  i.      In order for a triple play to occur, a runner must be on first base and second base or on first, second and third bases.

  ii.      A failed triple play may still result in a double play.

1.       Play is handled in the same fashion as a double play; however, a third die is added to the mix.

2.       In order for a third die to be thrown, the double play must have been successful.

3.       The third die must be higher than the throw of the second die.

d.       Stolen Bases

     i.      A batting team can call for a steal after any pitch by announcing “Steal”. A player is only eligible to steal if they recorded 10 or more steal attempts in the year of the copyright of the card.

1.       Each player shall roll a die.

2.       A runner’s value is determined by their total steals divided by their total steals plus their times caught stealing times the roll of their die.

3.       The catcher’s value is determined by the catcher’s CS% (Caught Stealing Percentage) times the roll of their die.

4.       A catcher’s value is doubled when a runner is stealing third.

5.       If the runner’s value is higher than the catcher’s value, the runner is safe.  If the catcher’s value is higher than the runner’s value, the runner is out.

                         e.  Pinch Hitters

i. A batter may be substituted for by any other player on the roster prior to the start of the original player's at bat sequence. The original player may not return to the game. Additionally, the batter substituted may not play the field outside of their position.  In turn, they must be substituted once more upon the batting team's return to the field for a player that plays the original player's position.
