We are traveling to the border to learn about and experience one of the largest political and social crises in our world today. We are learning from all perspectives at the border, from Border Patrol to families inside the migrant shelters. We strive to gain a well-rounded picture and understanding of migration on our closest border.
No, this is not a mission trip. This is a trip rooted in educational purposes, combining spirituality, political science, and diversity/inclusion—whatever that may look like to the person on the trip. We are not approaching the border with any agenda.
This is the sixth year Queens has participated in this trip, and we have remained in close contact with partners on the border. These partners live in both Douglas and Agua Prieta and are aware of the political, social, legal, environmental, and broader changes throughout the area.
The Anderson Fund through the Belk Chapel at Queens University is providing the main source of funding for the trip. Team members are also providing funds, as well as donations from family and friends. Feel free to donate to support the trip at https://engage.queens.edu/register/givechapel25.
We leave February 28, 2025, and will return on March 6, 2025. It will be two travel days and five experience-based days. We will cross over the border and into Agua Prieta three times.
The migration humanitarian crisis is not far away from us, like many people think it is—it is right here, in our communities and at borders all around us. It takes more than hearing headlines to understand the truth, and we strive to experience all we can and share our findings for those who aren't able to experience the truth.
