Ace of Spades

"Ace of Spades" is an autobiographical comic documenting my journey through middle/high school. The comic is mostly focused on my time in grade 8 but also breifly includes some of my time in highschool, it ends when I've finally found myself. The characters Spade and Ace are fragmented pieces of my imagination and live to push me along the right path in their own special ways. I do not have DID/hallucinations, think of this comic the same way you would think about Sander's Sides, I was obsessed with Sander's Sides at the time of making the characters so the comic is greatly inspired by Thomas Sander's world. Spade and Ace are the fantasy elements in a mostly non-fiction story, they do not exist. The character version of me goes through relatable struggles of growing up, coping with mental illness and exploring identity.

SYNOPSIS:

Mylo is anxious about the upcoming school year when a piece of his imagination comes to life and offers to help him gain confidence. When he accepts, a deal is made, and Spade won't leave Mylo's side until he's served his purpose. Spade and Ace serve as a wonky moral compass in any decision Mylo needs to make and help him to reflect on his own mental state and the way he sees the world. The two have to follow Mylo until both of their original purposes are fulfilled and he reaches a state of self-acceptance.

Episode 1: Discovery

Synopsis: Mylo is worried about the upcoming school year and meets Spade, an imaginary projection of his self-confidence.

Episode 2: Assumptions

Synopsis: It's the first day of school and Mylo discovers he isn't in a class with any of his friends, luckily he makes some new ones.

Episode 3: Not Belonging

Synopsis: Mylo's new friends turn out to not be who he thought they were, he's faced with a decision to not say anything or stand up to them and face the rest of the year alone.
