Hi there, I'm Vedika Shah. The Books For a Better World project was born from my Girl Scout Gold Award project. I've always felt passionate about encouraging diversity and kindness and am so grateful I was able to utilize this opportunity to do just that!
I worked extensively with school librarians to research and curate a list of children's books for various topics.
Through generous donations, I was able to acquire over 30 books for 3 locations (Prairie Ridge Preschool Lab, Cary Grove Preschool Lab, and the Prairie Grove Elementary Library).
I worked to create resource sheets with additional links, activities, questions, and games that teachers can use as supplementary curriculum.
Thank you to all the community members and mentors who supported my project! A special thank you to Mrs. Bland, the Prairie Ridge Head Librarian and my project advisor, and to Mrs. O'Leary, the Prairie Grove Head Librarian, who personally promoted and provided for this project to happen at Prairie Grove. Additionally, I'd like to thank Marvin's Toy Store for their donation of educational activities. This project means a great deal to me and I hope our community enjoys using it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
