Community Communication Connection
I am running for the Easthampton School Committee because I believe that children are citizens in our democracy, and how we treat children is an indicator of how we treat everyone. Our public educational system is where we meet the majority of our children in Easthampton and where our values are reflected. I want children and their families to feel as though they are an essential part of Easthampton. Belonging to a school community where each individual is respected and encouraged to be fully themselves fosters a sense of belonging and connection essential to accessing academic growth for all learners. I believe that Easthampton succeeds when our schools thrive.
I am a social worker and see individuals and families in my practice. I’ve also served as a school consultant, a social work supervisor, and a trainer around mental health issues. The impact of having a strong school community impacts the mental health of students and their families. Mental wellness is only possible when learners and school professionals are seen clearly and well supported by policies and finances. Communities thrive when every member of the community feels connected. Residents of Easthampton across ages and neighborhoods are essential to strong schools, and every resident plays a part. I highly value intergenerational connection.
I have lived in Easthampton since 2006, am a registered Democrat, and my wife and I are devoted to raising children’s voices in Easthampton. My wife is a psychotherapist with an expertise in working with children who have experienced trauma. We are a queer family with a 10th grader in Easthampton High School. I have been attending school committee meetings regularly and am ready to serve. As a school committee member, I will bring a focus on belonging and mental wellness, community, compassion, and communication.
