Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Bo Nicholson has always called the city home. Growing up with his two younger brothers, William and Henry, he developed strong ties to the community and has since carried those roots with him throughout his personal and professional life.
Bo's educational journey began at the University of Georgia, where he pursued his degree from the Terry College of Business, graduating in 2010. His time in Athens wasn’t just about academics, though. During college, he was also part of the rock band Mama’s Love. The band traveled extensively throughout the Southeastern United States, recording original music at notable studios such as Southern Ground in Atlanta and with the renowned producer John Keane in Athens. These experiences nurtured his love for music and taught him valuable lessons in collaboration, discipline, and the importance of a shared goal.
Although Bo's professional path led him away from full-time music, it continues to be his passion. He performs regularly with the local cover band Steamroom Etiquette in Raleigh and occasionally reconnects with his former bandmates for special performances. Music remains a creative and fulfilling outlet for him.
In 2012, Bo took his first step into the financial world by joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He quickly embraced the firm’s Practice Management Development program, which involved rigorous client acquisition and relationship-building training. Through cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and educational seminars, he learned the importance of providing proactive, relationship-driven service, which would become the foundation of his career.
Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies in 2016, where he partnered with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). At FRM, he found a client-first culture that resonated deeply with his professional values. The firm emphasizes long-term relationships with clients, a philosophy that has allowed FRM to grow into a trusted advisory team serving high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. Today, FRM operates offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a proud member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, which recognizes top-performing financial professionals. In addition, he co-hosts a personal finance radio show, which is broadcast across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show offers practical financial advice and aims to make financial education more accessible.
Bo’s advisory philosophy emphasizes trust, clarity, and a long-term perspective. He focuses on helping clients navigate the complexities of personal finance, from simplifying financial matters to minimizing tax exposure and making informed, purposeful decisions. Whether clients are preparing for retirement, saving for college, or managing family wealth, he partners with them to ensure their financial strategies align with their goals.
Each financial plan Bo creates is fully customized, recognizing that every client’s needs and priorities differ. He takes a client-centered approach, carefully listening to what matters most to the people he works with and ensuring that each plan is designed to serve those unique goals. He believes the most effective plans are not one-size-fits-all solutions but carefully crafted strategies tailored to individual circumstances.
In 2018, Bo married Seely Stephenson in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. After their honeymoon in Greece, the couple returned to Raleigh to start their life together. Today, they have two children: Grove, born in 2021, and Bill, born in 2023. They also share their home with a yellow lab named Parker, who adds to the family’s joy.
Bo enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and exploring the coast of North Carolina. His love for live music remains strong, and he still finds time to perform with Steamroom Etiquette. Additionally, he is a proud uncle to five nieces and nephews and values the friendships and connections he’s built over the years. The same values that define his professional life—care, consistency, and authenticity—also extend to his personal life.
As Bo nears his tenth year with Capital Investment Companies, he continues focusing on professional and personal growth. His vision for the future includes building a thoughtful, people-centered firm culture and deepening the trust that clients and colleagues have placed in him.
From his days performing music to his current role as a trusted financial advisor, Bo has remained steadfast in his commitment to integrity, relationships, and purpose. By approaching every relationship with care and consistency, he continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of his clients, both professionally and personally.
