Transportation to Boston, MA or Providence, RI, the nearest big cities:
By air, fly to Boston Logan Airport (BOS) or T. F. Green Airport (PVD), which is located ten miles south of Providence, RI
Logan Airport is connected by Boston bus/subway to South Station where you can find intercity bus and train connections to Fall River (see below)
Green Airport 10 miles from the bus connections to Fall River. It's probably easier to rent a car and drive to Westport from here, but let us know if you're stuck of course!
By train, Amtrak has trains to both Providence and Boston. Boston also has an extensive Commuter Rail system extending over much of MA and parts of RI, NH, and ME.
By bus, numerous bus lines connect with both Providence and Boston, including Peter Pan Bus Lines, Greyhound, Flixbus, Ourbus, and Megabus. Many other bus lines connect to Boston (but not Providence) especially from points north and from New York City.

Transportation between Providence and Fall River, MA (small city right next to Westport):
By bus, there are two possibilities:Â
Peter Pan Bus Lines serves Fall River from the Peter Pan Terminal which is just north of Providence, almost into Pawtucket. If you came into Providence on a Peter Pan Bus that stops here, then this might be the simplest option. You'll need to check the schedules of course, and switch buses here.
The Providence regional bus service (RIPTA) has a bus that connects to Fall River (route 24L) from downtown Providence at Kennedy Plaza. Peter Pan Buses from the west (i.e. everywhere except Boston) stop here before proceeding to the main terminal (described above). All the other intercity bus lines that serve Providence stop at locations within a 10-minute walk from here, and the Amtrak station is about a 15-minute walk from here.
There are connecting buses between the two Providence bus stations (run by Peter Pan), but it's time-consuming and an extra $20, so it's best to plan ahead and choose the stop that makes sense for your travel.
By car, of course. The T F Green airport has a car rental facility next door, and there are several car rental places a couple of blocks away from Kennedy Plaza. There is no car rental near the Peter Pan Terminal.
