History of the Nowra Lions Club Inc.
The Club was formed on the 29th October, 1958, and chartered on the 9th January 1959. Nowra Lions Club owes its existence to a handful of dedicated Lions from Wollongong Lions Club, who together with prospective members held the Formation Meeting at the Prince of Wales Hotel, now Best & Less Department Store, Junction Street.
During the past 63 years we have had great Fellowship and Lionism in Nowra, and we celebrated our 60th Year in 2019 with 29 members and friends of Lions. This year, we again look forward to continuing our success in Catering to the Many, Caring for our Families and Community and encouraging our Youth of Tomorrow
Ordinary people doing extraordinary things - supporting people with a disability, fundraising for worthwhile causes - Supporting the Community of Nowra.
History of the Bomaderry Lions Club Inc.
The Lions Club of Bomaderry was sponsored by Nowra Lions and chartered on 5 July 1971. In turn, Bomaderry have sponsored the Lioness Club of Shoalhaven and Jervis Bay Lions.
Bomaderry Lions have a number of long term projects including the Carols in the Park which started in 1978 with a crowd of 100 people and 44 years later 3000- 5000 people attend, with a fireworks display at the end.
Bomaderry Lions have a custom built catering van to service the community. After catering for 50 years, our steak sandwiches are second to none!
Other projects include Havenlee Special Needs school to build a playground at Bomaderry Primary School and raise funds for a bus, providing a garden seat at Karinya Cancer Care unit in Berry, building the Bomaderry Lions Park and providing a lift chair for use at the hospital.
Bomaderry Lions would like to see more people become members and to continue to serve the community, and to help those less fortunate who may need a little help along the way, to reflect the Lions Club International motto "We serve"
Lions Clubs are part of community life, in the cities and in the country. Clubs are easily identified by their distinctive Logo, the trademark of our International Association, and the 'We Serve'; motto.
Lions Australia is part of an international association, filled with people who are joined by the common desire to make their communities better, by using their creativity, enthusiasm and energy.
Membership is open to all people of the community in good standing.
