Bolton Bins is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by
Bolton Council or any government body.
WHO WE ARE
Bolton Bins is an independent app created by an individual developer. It is not
affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Bolton Council or any government
body. The app uses publicly available data from Bolton Council's waste collection
API solely to display bin collection dates to residents.
WHAT DATA WE COLLECT
We do not collect any personal information. The only data the app stores is:
• Your saved addresses (postcode + property) — saved locally on your device only,
so the app remembers them between sessions. You can save more than one address.
• Notification preferences, reminder times, and holiday-pause state — stored
locally on your device.
• Your last-known bin schedule for each saved address — cached locally so the app
continues to work when Bolton Council's site is temporarily unavailable.
Refreshed automatically when the app reconnects.
• Your next bin collection (bin types and dates) — also saved locally so the
home-screen widgets can display it without opening the app.
• App preferences such as theme choice and onboarding status — all stored locally
on your device.
• App usage count — a simple counter stored locally used only to decide when to
ask you to leave a review.
CALENDAR ACCESS
If you tap "Add to Calendar" in the app, Bolton Bins asks for permission to write
to your device calendar. With permission granted, the app creates a dedicated
"Bolton Bins" calendar on your device and adds your upcoming collection dates as
events. All calendar writes happen locally on your device. We do not read other
calendar entries and we do not send calendar data anywhere — not to our servers
(we have none) or to any third party.
You can revoke calendar permission at any time in your phone's system settings,
and you can delete the "Bolton Bins" calendar from your calendar app without
affecting any other event.
HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
Your saved addresses are sent to Bolton Council's public waste collection API,
one at a time, only when their bin schedule needs to be fetched. This request is
made directly from your device to Bolton Council's servers. We do not have our
own server and do not receive, store, or process your addresses ourselves.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The app communicates with Bolton Council services hosted on the Verint platform:
• bolton.form.uk.empro.verintcloudservices.com — queried in the background to
fetch your bin collection dates. Your saved addresses are sent (one at a time,
only when their schedule needs to be fetched) as part of this request.
• bolton.portal.uk.empro.verintcloudservices.com — opened in your browser when
you tap "Report Missed Bin" or "Official Data Source" in the app's settings.
Once you leave the app, you interact with Bolton Council's portal directly; the
app does not see or store anything from that session.
Please refer to Bolton Council's own privacy policy for information on how they
handle these interactions.
Bin reminders are scheduled and shown entirely on your device using your phone's
built-in notification system. They are not push notifications — nothing about
your reminders or schedule is sent to us, to Expo, or to any server.
DATA SHARING
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties. No analytics
tools or advertising SDKs are included in this app.
DATA RETENTION
All data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all stored data at any
time by uninstalling the app. We have no ability to access or delete data stored
on your device.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data
from children.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected
with an updated "Last updated" date.
