My primary areas of research focus on representation in science and ethics of philanthropy. But I am interested in a wide range of questions and conceptual issues in ethics, science, medicine, artificial intelligence, and other areas.
I am currently working on a book project, tentatively titled Heads in the Clouds. It explores a range of philosophical issues in meteorological practice, with three primary sections:
Section One: Forecast and Prediction - Explores epistemological questions related to the nature and status of weather forecasts.
Section Two: Products and Measurement - Explores the nature and use of measurements and products in meteorological practice, including the way in which they ground forecasts.
Section Three: Science and Society - Explores the interplay of weather science in society and the future of forecasts, including the role of AI.
I have a second book manuscript, temporarily on the backburner while I finish Heads in the Clouds. It is focused on ethics of philanthropy and is tentatively entitled Ethics before the Gift which will reflect upon some ethical and philosophical questions coming from contemporary philanthropic practice. It will be written for an audience of fundraisers and others who work at nonprofits.
