Everything You Need to Know About CoolSculpting (635)
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, FDA cleared, fat-reduction treatment. Through controlled and targeted cooling, the
fat cells underneath the skin are frozen and the cells start to die off. Your body will then naturally process and
eliminate these dead cells from the body. So say goodbye to those pesky love handles or upper arm flab because once
these treated fat cells are gone, they are gone for good. Keep in mind that the CoolSculpting treatment is not
intended for weight-loss but for treating the stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. The CoolSculpting
treatment is FDA cleared to eliminate fat in these eight areas:
• Abdomen
• Flanks/Sides (“Love handles” or “Muffin top”)
• Double chin
• Inner thighs
• Outer thighs
• Upper arms
What Should I Expect?
Starting the CoolSculpting journey is simple, your first step will be a one-on-one consultation with a CoolSculpting
clinician. Your clinician will discuss a holistic approach to achieve the goals you have in mind for your body and
then determine the specific areas where you would like to eliminate fat.
The treatment plans vary person to person, so it may be as simple as one visit, or more than one treatment to
achieve your goals. Your CoolSculpting clinician will tailor a treatment plan that works best for your needs.
On treatment day, your clinician will review and mark the area(s) being treated, place a protective gel pad on the
skin, and the CoolScuplting vaccum applicator will suction the tissue in the applicator cup. The applicator delivers
controlled and targeted cooling to the fat cells and freezes the targeted fat. You may initially feel intense cold
but the area will usually numb within 5 to 10 minutes. You may also feel some mild pulling or pinching from the
applicator's vaccum. The whole session will take about 30 to 60 minutes.
CoolSculpting is non-surgical which means most patients return to their normal day-to-day activities immediately
after treatment. After the CoolSculpting treatment, some side effects you might experience include:
• Temporary redness
• Swelling
• Blanching
• Bruising
• Firmness
• Tingling
• Stinging
• Tenderness
• Cramping
• Aching
• Itching and/or skin sensitivity.
However, these side effects are temporary and typically clear up within a few days or weeks. As with any medical
procedures or treatments, ask your doctor if CoolSculpting is right for you.
Is CoolSculpting Right For Me?
CoolSculpting is designed for men or women who have unwanted fat or noticeable bulges in targeted areas (think “love
handles” or “arm flab”). CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss surgery (e.g. gastric bypass) so it is not a solution
for people that are obese. If you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold
hemoglobinuria, then you should not have the CoolSculpting treatment done.
How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?
While the average cost typically ranges from $2,000 to $4,000 for a personalized treatment plan, the price for the
CoolSculpting treatment can vary depending on the area(s) of concern and how many treatments are needed. During your
consultation, ask your clinician if they offer payment plans.
When Will I See Results?
Everybody is different but you might start to see changes 3 weeks after treatment, and will see the most noticeable
results after 2 months. Your body will keep flushing out fat cells up to 4 to 6 months after treatments.
What Happens If I Gain Weight After CoolSculpting?
The BodySculpting treatment actually reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas by about 20-25%. Since
your body naturally processes and eliminates these fat cells, they don't migrate to another part of your body. So if
you do gain some weight, you're more likely to gain it evenly around your body and not just in the treated areas.
Many people after their CoolSculpting treatment feel motivated to stay close to their ideal weight.
